Re: My Thoughts......on World Youth Day.
It never takes long for someone to come up with something inappropriate but usually hillariously funny
In all seriousness the fuggers had me fairly pissed off with their singing and cheering waking me up earlyish on Saturday here in Brisbane BUT....
It really is quite nice (what am i saying) to see so many young people happy and giving off a positive vibe. Just hope they stay away from the priests/brothers/monks struggling with that ridiculous oath of celibacy.

Why does World Youth DAY last a WEEK???
In God, we trust; all others must supply data.

Probably the same reason a 30 minute delay on my trains lasts nearly a hour I'm guessing...cookeetree wrote:Why does World Youth DAY last a WEEK???

Re: My Thoughts......on World Youth Day.
And why on Earth is it called World Youth Day - it's got nothing to do with the youths of the world.
It should be Catholic Week. Calling it World Youth Week is deliberate lying, in an attempt to appear more universal and appealing.

So Gos maybe they can hold the next world youth day in South Africa. They could hold the large mass in the Krugger national park.

Yes Cath - very strange seeing 70 year olds walking around WYD paraphernalia.
I'm heartily sick of it - 'positive vibes' included.

Re: My Thoughts......on World Youth Day.
I'm soo over it.....
they're all over the trains and stations, singing, banging drums, trying to get on before people get off the trains, and trying to save seats for friends in Peak Hour, ffs.
Singing and chanting is not really something I want to hear at 8 am.
Why couldn't the law have been about stopping pilgrims annoying other people?
Bring on those lions, I say.

Re: My Thoughts......on World Youth Day.
Hi all
If it's any consolation for you guys in Sydney I was accosted by a group of singing, chanting and dancing young people last week and was handed a religious tract by an accompanying priest (which was glanced at and thrown in the nearest bin). I gather they may have been on the way to the train for the trip up to Sydney, so they may be part of your crowd up there
.
Although I am an aethiest I am a fervent believer you can live a good life without too much effort. Especially without the input of someone standing in front of you every Sunday morning ready to beat you up with with the fear of a sometimes-vengeful all-knowing all-seeing god and who is trying (nicely in most cases) to force you into the path you should really have naturally chosen for yourself. Most people are inherently good people and lead trouble-free lives, the ones that aren't are not going to change by church Sunday mornings...
Yes, we live in a democracy, so please feel free to worship whatever god or multi-limbed/various-headed diety or animistic-earth-moon-mother-goat figure you choose (with the attendant blinkered narrow-focus belief system, various intolerances and old-world outlooks) but also please allow me the same right to go about my own business quietly and without fuss.
And especially save me from any self-righteous furore that goes with public displays of fervent once-in-my-lifetime worship and singsong BEFORE I have my morning coffee.
