We moved to our present location because the missus was working 20 mins down the road. 6months later they moved to the other side of town. 164km round trip through traffic. She leaves at 5:30 and gets home at 16:00 for a 6:30 to 1430 shift - not to mention the expense of running a Falcon.
Pete what about Novated Leasing on a new bike? Or at least a small car. Might be worth investigating.
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

In simple. Pay for finance on your pre-tax income.

Re: MY WORK RANT..VENTING REQ'D
Dave,
You know, I never even contemplated that concept was available, similar to a salary sacrifice.
I may give them a call and see how it could all pan out, a new bike under this arangement, with a deal done with the boss which will hold me for another say 5 years, would make him very happy, keep a grin on my face from ear to ear and maybe only hit my arse pocket ever so slightly.
Roll on Monday morning.

Re: MY WORK RANT..VENTING REQ'D
back on topic, now that spidey has burned my retinas...
anyone able to suggest what type of legal rep i speak to?
reason being, further inspection shows i am looking at closer to 2 1/2 hrs travel time one way or there isnt a service avail to get me there at all - depending if is day or night shift...what a fcuking joke!!
when i start at 7am, no service between the locations is listed. when i finish at 7pm, i dont get home til a bit after 930pm.
when i start at 7pm, have to leave home @ 415pm. win i finish 7am, dont get home til 945am
this involves up to 4 buses or 2 buses n a train depending on which shift i'm on/route i take.
thats gotta be seen as unreasonable travel surely?

Re: MY WORK RANT..VENTING REQ'D
Hi Pete,
Before you get carried away looking at novated leasing, I have already been down this road of pain, and it doesn't look good for bikes (unless the ATO pulls its finger out of its collective arse and recognises bikes as legitimate transport).
Novated leases are only really only good for:
a) People with salaries in the top tax bracket as you pay FBT instead of PAYE tax. FBT is much less than the top tax rate.
b) People that do a minimum of 20,000km per year. The more km, the less FBT you pay.
c) Cars. FBT rules DO NOT apply to motorbikes, only cars (otherwise I'd be on a motor bike everyday, not the train).
Mick
