LED indecators acting light hazard lights?

Post by ZX7R=FUN »

Hi guys.
I've just put some LED indecators on my 7 and when I switch them on left or right all of them flash light hazard lights on a car. Orignaly I just had the LED's on the rear and when I selected left or right on the switch indecators would work normally except a bit faster due to the lower voltage drawn from the LED's.
Has anyone come across this before?

You must either run the resistors or get the LED flasher relay via ebay or Rated R parts. You can also get the 'Flash as Micheal Jackson' variable flash rate controllers complete with auto cancel if you want to get carried away!?

-- The resistors can also be purchased from Coventrys ie[Narva /Hella / L.E.D] is you have a trade account they are cheap as!!

If you run the resistors though / use the wires from the LED indicator to the factory plug. Not very clever to chop up your factory harness unless you absolutely have too!!

do the resistors get very hot? would they melt any plastic they were close to?

Yep , the fact they have a finned alloy heatsink is a bit of a giveaway!therefore when I have fitted them I do so on the fronts as you have more room to play with than in the tail section to keep them away from the plastics or anything else!
They are a 'quickfix' not a good fix..ie what you save in power running LED's you lose via the resistors!!

just put on a LED flasher relay from ebay and the speed of the lights is now normal but all lights still flash at the same time like hazard lights

Normally LED's will only work when the polarity is correct whereas globes are not affected by + or - earth.

I would probably double check your wiring first just to be sure.

Did you use crappy scotch locks on your wiring ?[commonly supplied]

Normally all indicator flashing is a sign of bad earth connection which could well be the earth wiring itself.

Check the last thing you did before the problem ie front indicators. Re-check wiring / connections etc.

Hope it helps..let us know how you go 8)

all connection are as good as factory. I swapped wires around individualy on each light and it only that that light stop working while all the others keep flashing. If I fit the old flasher unit and replace 2 of the led indecators on the front or the back the indecators will then work normaly flashing left or right whatever i select the only thing is they flash fast.

I figured it out I removed the blinker globe from the dash and then indecators worked normaly.
Because the dash globe is used for both sides and draws more current then the LED's the current backfeeds through the globe to the other side without even lighting up the dash globe. I need to find a LED for the dash light or a diode to stop the current backfeeding.
