Sounds like you are getting on top of it now, chances are once you get all that crap out of it it will run reliably for you, hope so!

When you say degrease, were you meaning with degreaser or cleaned with carby cleaner?

As per the manual I used a plastic-safe carby cleaner.

Ok well I gave it a kick in the guts last night... ended up with fuel on the ground and she had trouble cranking. Pulled out the plugs and they were wet as. Cleaned them up and put them back in, and it cranked fine but no love.
Might be a mechanic job... soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo can't afford this at the moment.

Or just a new set of floats or needle valves. Float isn't just stuck? may have hung up when you put it together.

Sounds great, because I'd love to pull the whole thing apart all over again.jl4049 wrote:Or just a new set of floats or needle valves. Float isn't just stuck? may have hung up when you put it together.
I was fairly careful not to over-end it at all but maybe in all the stuffing around to get it in place with those stupid rubber mounts to the airbox.

Okay well I've just pulled the carbs off and checked the floats, everything was fine but I removed & refitted them again to check there was no crap in there... was all good.
Have put it together again and cleaned the plugs, forgot my keys so I'm just going back to start it now.

Ok well I headed over, it took a little cranking before it started, big pop from one of the exhausts and then it started fine. Turned it off & on again a few times and it was great... rode up the road and it was great..... for about 3km.. then it started missing again and I *barely* got it home.
* There's no crap in the tank
* The pickup's not blocked
* I've blown out the fuel line
* Carb has been cleaned and blown out
* Floats weren't stuck
* Definitely not an air or spark issue
* Yes there's fuel in the tank
The second time I took the bowls off there was a bit of crap in there, maybe it's still blocked and needs more of a cleanout.
Suggestions?

Has it got a vacuum tap? It still sounds like the fuel supply is drying up.

You're right, it feels like it's out of fuel after a bit of a riding - I've disassembled the fuel tap and all looks in order, the pickup isn't blocked and there's nothing in the
I assume the small line that goes to the fuel tap is a vacuum line, I'll check if that's blocked in any way. As the carbs are empty I've been using the "PRI" setting to get the bike started, then flicking it over to the normal setting to ride it and after a few minutes it's running like crap. Perhaps it's using the fuel that's run into the bowls and the line but once that's used up the vac line isn't causing the fuel tap to release any fuel.

Leave it on prime and go for a ride. Won't hurt it - a lot of bikes don't have vacuum taps, and so are effectively on prime permanently.

Will post back up.

Re: Drained carbs.. LOTS of air from one?
YAY!
Sorted. I made the mistake of looking in the tank and thinking it was all good... but there was a lot of crap I couldn't see (apparently!).
after having cleaned out the carbs three times and it dying after a few minutes it was obvious something was up. Pulled apart the carbs again and as expected, full of crap! Blew out the lines, pulled apart that tap which was now full of crap, and flushed the fuel tank cycling about 10l of fuel through the tank and back out via a gauze strainer.
Bike has since gotten home with a bit of a random cruise, gotten Dale to & from work twice, and myself to work this morning... 140km so far
