life of tyre ZX10r

Post by zx-10r »

Just wondering how many k's i can get out of front and back tyre. i had the bike from new and has now done 5500k's.
bike is a 07 zx10r (no, no burnouts yet) Im not sure what a tyre would look like when ready for a change so yeah just the average k's you get from a back and front tyre would be appreciated.

also how much am i looking at replacing front/back tyre with a decent brand.

thanks :D
Let the good times roll.

Don't take this the wrong way, but have you ever owned a bike before? A zx10r's a hell of a bike to learn about what tyres look like when they're worn out on!

Tyres have wear indicators - blocks of rubber within the grooves - and when they're flush (or nearly flush) with the rest of the tyre the tyre is worn out. Tyres can wear out before that, however, such as if they're out of shape (squared off, scalloped out, edges worn out, etc) or simply because they've "gone off" (too much heat, too many heat cycles, old rubber, etc). For the most part it's a "feel" thing along with a visual inspection.

Life expectancy will vary by huge amounts based on a number of factors, but the OEM tyres on your 10 will probably be good for 4-7000 km's depending upon the rider and how they're maintained. Replacement costs can vary from $300 set to over $600, with average prices about $500 a set. Depending on what you buy these will last you from 2-20,000 kms.

Hope this helps.

I got 9000K out of the OEM Dunlops on the 10, but then I'm kind to tyres. I wouldn't expect any change from $550, unless you get a really good deal or really hard tyres which I wouldn't recommend on such a bike.

the new MCA has about 3 different tyre set all running for less than $400 atm.

as said above all depends how your right wrist treats them. For me on my 07 I changed the OEM Dunlops before 3k because I couldnt stand the feel of them however on my 08 10r my Bridgestone rear lasted 6500kms and that was with 1 superbike school and 2 trackdays (however all this may not mean much because I wore out the front in 3200kms  ).

Been running Diablo Corsa's for a couple of years and find they last around 5000-6000.

Hmmmmm---what am I doing wrong?????

Diablo Corsa rear = approx 2500 km (no burnouts either!?) figured this tyre is far too soft for high speed / 40 degree plus temp!? large (10-15mm) tears started appearing from about 50% worn!?
Diablo Corsa III rear = approx 6000km (This one seemed to be more resistant to tearing up also!?)

On average 2 x rears to 1 x front - normally too hard / scalloped as opposed to low tread!?

(Roadsmarts DO NOT LAST on the back of a 10!!! Corner well but square off very quickly under hard accel!!)

Q; Any views between 190/50 -17 vs 190/55 -17 on a Gumby?
