Rust inside tank......

Hey Guy's,

I just drained the tank on the track bike as it's going to paint tomorrow, and when I looked iside there is alot of little star like rust spots all over the inside of the tank....

I was just wondering if there is anything I can use to try and get rid of them or should I just Keep it empty for only a minamal amount of time and get fuel back in it....

Phosphoric acid works a treat- costs bugger all and works well- did one of my GN250 tanks three years ago and it was *REALLY* rusty. Still AOK. Since done a couple more tanks with great success too. It converts the rust to iron phosphate which is fairly inert.

Cheers Bonester, Would I just be able to get it from bunnings or supercheap auto?

Bunnings would be the go- I get mine from a hardware store. Google for instructions on how but I just pull off cap, tap and fuel sender- and make some sort of blocking off plug- make sure none gets on paint- water down slightly and leave it in there as long as you can- it works in hours but I try and give a couple of days so it gets a good going over- remove flaky rust by chucking some nuts in the tank and shaking all around- put them on a string so you don't lose any. Hose out to clean afterwards and make sure completely dry before putting back into service- compressed air is good for this.

BTW it is known as Rust Convertor.

2nd the rust convertor, am doin my tank atm 2-3 days with a few shakes here and there will get her looking pretty sweet.
to clean the rust convertor out if compressed air ant handy, then i have found a few shakes with some metho will get rid of all the other crap

a short length of dog-chain is also a good method to use after the internal acid bath...

And would it be worth it for the tank foam to be installed after the process is complete? Failing that tank cream even???

Only need Kreem if there are pinholes in tank.
