Little things i can do.....

Post by sicari »

I was hoping to do a few minor tweaks (that aren’t going to cost me an arm and a leg) to my little 250 to gain some more "up and go"
I found that I am a lot more confident with my bike skills that i have gained over the past 3 months and would like to give my bike some more juice.
If anyone could help me out that would be great
I am a beginner so be gentle :D

Best way you get some more out of your 250 is trade it in on something bigger when you're legally able to ride something bigger, relise this isn't what you're seeking but without spending more $ than the bike is worth spending it on, stick with what you have till it's time to move up a notch.

Just for your reference, a ZZR250 runs carburettors...not fuel injection!!! ;)

LEARN TO RIDE!

This will be the single biggest performance gain you can make to your bike! I can recall a certain run up the Reefton Spur years ago...one guy on a mates, girlfriends ZZR250. The following pack were all on ZX6R's, ZX7R's, Blades. Not one passed the little ZZR. So the bike is capable of a lot more than you may realise. Spend your time and money improving the one key component which makes a motorcycle go fast. The nut that holds the Handlebars!!!! A long time ago once again, a mate gave me this advice. Although it took me a few months to listen, once I did and took this advice, it changed my riding enjoyment forever! :kuda:

i lost about 20k's at top end......it sat at about 8 grand at 100 but was heaps better getting up to that speed cause from about 4-10 grand was where it was comfortable.....from memory the smaller sprocket was about $20 and a bit of time to adjust the chain to suit
but i agree with strika.....learn to ride first then your next bike will be that much better for it.......and yeah the zzr's can keep up with heaps of bikes through corners and stuff.....i kept up with my cousin on a f4i and a friend on a rs250 cause i out rode them..... :D

Believe me when I say this, I take what you’re saying very seriously! I’m not talking about having the power of a GSXR 1000 strapped between my legs, I don’t think people are getting that I just want my zzr250 to have an edge over the rest (in a straight line)

why tho ? Its a 250cc!!! Are you having races with your mates on there 250's ? Because anything of bigger cc will beat you in a straight line!
I have to agree with others, just learn to ride ya bike, going fast in a straight line isn't proof of anything!

Well put it this way. Are you still going to keep riding your 250 once your able to ride something bigger ??? Most likely No, so why pour money into something that you will just get rid of ASAP. doing a sprocket change isnt a bad idea as its cheap and will give you quicker acceleration, but spending money on the engine is just a big waist of time!
Plus if you want something quicker, why go for a ZZR ? why didnt you get a ZX2R or CBR250RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ??

If you're after some more top speed then drop your rear sprocket size a tooth or two, bear in mind though that this WILL reduce your pickup considerably..

there isn't really anything you can do to improve the performance, or up and go to the 250 mate.
only way you will get faster on it is to learn how to ride.
any idiot can ride a straight line, it takes skill to make it go round corners..

its been said before, get a -1 front sprocket on it and it should pick up a lot faster, but you will lose some top end.
cruising down the highway at 90 you should be sitting on 8 - 8.5k rpm, expect that to go up to 9 - 9.5.
at 110 you are looking at 10-11. considering it redlines at 14 (mine does anyway i know some models redline at 13) you dont have that much more to go.

but then again 110 is the fastest legal speed you can do on the streets.

on the other hand, you may want to get the engine bored out, and carbies retuned to inject more fuel... but we are talking some serious $$$ for a minimal gain.

And incidentally, re your sig.. "If sex is a pain in the ass, turn over. You're doing it wrong." You might be doing it worng but you're also fucking a donkey in the English (as opposed to American) speaking world too, and if that's what gets you off, well and good, I just dunno that I need to know about it :D
