indicator fast flashing

Hey guys,

Chucked some new indicators on today because stockers got damaged, but now its flashing fast. I knew this would happen, but is there anyway to slow them down to return to the stock speed ?

when i changed the relay on my old cb250 they flashed faster with the more revs i had, i'd say this is your problem only you changed the system at the blinker end...it may be something to do with how the blinker talks to the relay switch

on the other hand as most people will attes to i have no idea what im talking about but give it a go

Yeah i get what ya saying. Im a real noob when it comes to this stuff. But from what i understand, there isn't enough "load" on the circuit which is why its flashing to fast. I have to install a something into the circuit to slow the rate of flashing. Because its gone from the globe which would draw more power than the little LED.

Are you sure 1 of the globes isn't blown?Mine flashed faster when it blew a globe.Just a thought....

leds draw less power, so it flashes fast just liek when one is blown..

load resistor is the exact name. i was told i needed one wired behind each indicator but got away with having one for each side. you can order them through auto elects or anyone that sells l.e.d. lights/indicators. i got mine from a trailer manufacturer here in maryborough. mine cost $15 each but you can get them cheaper on ebay i think.

The average resistance of a 21 watt indicator lamp is 6.8 ohms - LED indicator resistance is 3/5 of FA. So each LED indicator needs a 6.8 ohm resistor in series with it so that the electrical circuit resembles the original setup.

Much easier to go to Repco or Autobarn and get an electronic flasher relay......... about $16 from memory

I found this in my PM box I sent to Dave #3 I think it was

I used a Narva PART No. 68212BL
But it's basically a 12V 2pin electronic flasher relay........try and get someone over the age of 12 to serve you
The electronic relay will flash at the same rate no matter what the load is. Different resistance? Not a problem. Burnt out Bulbs here and there, no matter it will still flash at the same rate. That's why the electronic relay is so nice, you don't have to worry about what kind of load someone is putting on it, it's a fixall.
Another two that would be suitable are both made by Tridon. The standard model (part #Tridon 552, $3.00) says "variable load, 12Volt, 2 terminal, 4 lamp capacity" The other model (part #Tridon EL-12, $7.00) says "variable load, 12Volt, 2 terminal, 10 lamp capacity, extended life, lasts 10 times longer than thermal relays." Basically it appears that the only difference is that the black relay can handle more lamps at once.

yeah thanks guys, thats pretty much what i thought it was also, i knew i needed to put "something" in the circuit and that was the resistor!!

I might go check out jaycar or watever and see if they got any ideas!

Not sure if i wanna keep this indicator setup as they are a bit small and inconspicuous but is good for the discreet look!

i tried this and failed due to the way a single indicator dash lamp works. the globe system apparently earths back out through the opposite, unused indicator to complete the circuit and flash the dash lamp (if there is only one dash lamp for both indicators like my zx7r). because my leds could only run power in one direction the earth cannot return to the earthing point and an led flasher can does not compensate for this. installing load resistors parallel to the led indicators not only adds to the draw off the flasher can to activate the regular flasher but also allows an earth through for the opposing indicator to light the dash lamp......i think!

i only say "i think" because i did mine a while ago and i might not be remembering all the details, or, i might not be remembering them properly.
