I'm sure I read on here some guy had a high paying IT job and sold up and moved up the coast to live the simple life :kuda: .....

Money isn't everything mate you need to be able to enjoy what you do and enjoy even more your own time away from work.....

I say you got bigger ball's than a lot of us lemming's  ....
that could be my story :D
In march 08 I left a well paying IT job and moved up to northern NSW to find something else to do.
so far ive achieved the following:
started playing guitar in a rock n roll band again
started surfing again
i am excellent at drinking booze (which i never used to be)
Lost 8 kgs (without trying)
Captured and tamed a feral cat
started a uni course in something that i think i might actually still like in 10 years time.

Im the sort of person who is terrible at change. I just cant handle it.
to do this was really out of character and scared the shit out of me but it has been the best thing ive ever done.

money really isnt everything. Its honestly true.

Craig at age 53 your adviser should be talking to you about a transition to retirement strategy when you reach 55. Really simple to do and can save you a lot in taxes as you approach retirement (seriously, a LOT in taxes) and increase retirement savings.

eg - school teacher on $77k is now saving approx $4k PA in taxes with no impact to her cashflow. Over ten years (from 55-65) thats $40k. On top of that her retirement savings are growing by $18k in the first year alone. That figure will increase annually as she approachs 65. Even over 5 years its a substantial benefit.

....oops...old habits die hard.....

Thanks for all the messages of support everyone - I really do appreciate them. I loved my job so now it's just a case of concentrating on what I need to do to get as well as possible again.

cheers,
Wayne :D
