Clutch adjustment

on my GPX250

I got it serviced today and when I rode off noticed the clutch different, as in, now I let it out almost all the way before it moves off (if that makes sense)

I couldn't be bothered going back coz the mechanic had just left when I arrived. I know it should be an easy thing to do, so thought i'd ask you experts.

From trying to remember last time I had it adjusted for the same reason, he did something to the two nuts down the bottom of the cable and the top. But I am stuffed if I know exactly which way to do it...

So my question is, (after all that) is it easy to do? Or should I just pop in next time I am out and get them to do it? It's still fine to ride, it's just annoying that's all.

it is easy to do, the bottom nuts adjust the lever on the clutch cover (which should be 90 degrees to the cover) and the top ones are to adjust the lever. they both effect each other and adjust the bottom one first then the one on the lever. if you get the supplement manual it tells you how to do it all in it, you can download it of the net(i think it says its for a zzr250 or an e250, but they all the same for the motors and most other things as well)

About 3mm play at the lever.

You want the clutch to be fully released lever out but not so loose it drags too much fully engaged.

Did you get an owners manual with the Gpx? Pretty simple by the book (if you have one)

thanks for the advice guys, though it still looks too hard for me. SO.... I will pop in to the shop tomorrow and they can fix it up for me. I'm going for coffee tomorrow morning with some of the guys, so will pop in on the way and then it's done...

Took it to the shop this morning, young bloke said there was no more "play" in the cable and told me some other crap. (I hate it when the head honcho who knows everything isn't there) Then he said, as he's looking at it (he actually serviced it too mind you) "I don't know much about these bikes" so I am like WTF????

Anyway, rode off with the clutch exactly the same, met up with my mates for coffee at Keilor and one of them fixed it for me in 20 seconds. Now it's back to what it was before I took it in. I know how to do it myself now. Learned something today, YAY. lol

I'm not used to not knowing much about the mechanics of things, if it had have been my car, I would have taken him to task. I am not a mechanic but I know enough to question things with a car.

Sometimes it's just not good being a girl talking to a mechanic when you don't know a lot about it.

Unfortunately what you are experiencing is not uncommon Lisa.
Just ask a few other female motorcyclists and you'll discover a fairly common theme.
Try to be careful not to jump the gun as mechanics are rarely good communicators (veiled confession ) and not all are there to rip you off.
I would highly recommend a bit of study ie books on motorcycle repair from library etc , reading the owners manual and or posting up on here.

NOBODY knows everything regardless of age or sex .. Only a fool (or narcicist) would assume otherwise.

***** Pull the rubber cover back on the clutch perch (bracket that lever is attached) and look where cable is attached.... If you pull gently on the cable itself does it slide out of the silver screw looking bit at all(cable adjuster)?
If if feels tight / requires a lot of force , is there exposed thread remaining on the cable adjuster near the 10mm lock nut?
Let us know - take a pic and post if you are not sure ..

Sorry hadn't been in this part of the forum for a bit, thanks for the advice everyone, and IoN. I haven't been out again on the bike lately, too busy, but will try and get out on the weekend and get the head mechanic to have a look again, I think he's back at work now.
