Re: If this is true then we got problems
that's not exactly NEW news... have been 'covert' for a while
wouldn't live in Vic or WA for quids as they don't play fair... and then there's the Qld contractors to boot
we're all in trouble if they assume all red-light cams to be doubled as speed-cams

Wonder what the range is...
Surely if it's not too far the holes in it would give it away. You could always put some rubbish in the bin to play havoc with the system...

Re: If this is true then we got problems
They have been doing this in SA for a while,so now we have to watch Speedo for 3 ks over, cages, taxis, buses, fixed cameras, mobile cameras and fooken rubbish bins.If i seen one when i was walking i would become very pissed and fall over with the bin breaking my fall,or my dodgey knee might just give way.And mike comment dont speed in built up areas is ok but how long before they use them in the bush

seen one in a apple crete at cuddly creek(sa) also last year they put them in the colverts on the main drag and backed up into a private drive way so as the camera is just level with the road, and some red light cams get ya as well.

I would soooooo love to see a garbage truck come along and empty that sucker and drive off.
imagine putting that thing in your area and then not realising it was that day the garbo's came around....... I would pay money to see that

Re: If this is true then we got problems
I'd be careful here. I suggested this in another thread and the upshot was:photomike666 wrote:Just don't speed in built up areas
* It was deemed to be the epitome of dead-headedness.
* Apparently it is a symptom of those suffering from a surfeit of namby-pamby.
This sort of thing is (apparently):
* normal behaviour if you can get away with it
* just fine for a gung-ho young male who has NFI except he's bullet-proof and he can ride anything he effing well likes
* just fine for an older one that feels he still has the right-stuff, can read traffic like a book, has the sixth sense, wins Tatts every week and the road laws don't apply if you don't get caught
* just 'pushing the boundaries'.
FWIW I think that photo comes from overseas, I seem to have seen it before a few years back. The traffic in one pic is on the wrong side of the road.
As for doing it in the bush, you'd catch shitloads up here, especially if it's matched up with rubbish collection day (assuming you can stop it being collected). I wouldn't expect the camera to last more than one flash, once it's seen it'll be a lump of melted plastic slag or a skidmark. If they are going to have to sit there and watch it then they will be pretty noticable

Re: If this is true then we got problems
I dont know about other states but I always thought the point behind speed cameras was as a deterent, hence NSW need to have 3 signs before the camera itself... Obviously not so in other states.
See here, young man,
From Walgett to the sea,
From Conroy's Gap to Castlereagh,
There's none can ride like me.

The cans are pretty cool6maniac wrote:http://sydney.indymedia.org.au/node/38981
I've seen pictures of ones in the UK where they hang a tyre around it and then torch it.
I suppose it's intensely satisying (unless you get caught) but in the end I think they'll just be replaced and the rego fees will go up incrementally to fund the new units.

Re: If this is true then we got problems
Well if it's to be a deterent then I suppose NSW is at least making people aware that they are there and operational. I don't suppose it has occurred to anyone high-up in the RTA in NSW that three signs and an empty plastic box that contains nothing is cheaper to deploy at multiple sites than cameras that actually work and take pics that need to be processed?lifeofcrimeguy wrote:I dont know about other states but I always thought the point behind speed cameras was as a deterent, hence NSW need to have 3 signs before the camera itself... In Victoria they put them anywhere, carpark of the pub in the one-horse country town, parked on the side of the freeway, same point in the same small streets. I think they have civilian contractors doing them around here.

Re: If this is true then we got problems
the apple crate on cuddle creek road has been there for years, ever since i was living there in '05-'07. there also used to be a bike copper liked to park in a driveway just before one of the bridges and nail you going down the straight, too. the old hide the cam in something new thing has been around for a while now. apparently here in qld, there's no requirement for the cops to even let you know there is a camera in action anymore, meaning they dont have to put out the poxy sign if they dont want to. but its not revenue raising, honest. its to deter you from speeding, even though you don't know its there. plicks.zx899r wrote:seen one in a apple crete at cuddly creek(sa) also last year they put them in the colverts on the main drag and backed up into a private drive way ............
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.
