Whats your tyre pressure?
Whats your tyre pressure?
Hey there,
Wanted some feedback on your tyre pressure settings (and your bike of course). For starters, ive got an 06 zx6r and the manual states the tyres should be set at 36/42, front/rear respectively. I pumped my after a month to that level, they were at 31/37 till then, (which felt good too i might add).
Now after a couple of days of riding at the recommended settings, the obvious this i notice is it feels firmer and you get more feedback. But today, i nearly had an embarrassing off. I was turning right on the road, across some tram tracks with cold tyres (been riding for a couple mins so far), the the rear suddenly stepped out! (almost like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RXGPF-w-B8poor guy). I think its the combination of cold tyres and tram tracks, though ive crossed tram tracks hundreds of times, so i was quite surprised when this happened.
I felt more comfortable when the tyres are around 32/38. Another thing to bear in mind is that in melb its cold which would effect grip levels.
So, for street settings, what levels are your tyres at?

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

Re: Whats your tyre pressure?
Alot will depend on the tyre and the bike, different tyres like different pressures and the weight of the bike is also a factor

33/36 on my R1 roadie. Usually run them around 30/30 for track days.

Re: Whats your tyre pressure?
I used to just go 36/36 on the road and 30/30 on the track for the 10, but now I go 42/36 cold for the 10 on the road, and at the track day last week run the D209GP's on the ZX6 at 26 cold/30 warm in the rear and 30c cold/34warm in the front on the advice of Dave and the Dunlop tyre man and they felt brilliant. Qualification is though that they are race tyres so not really appropriate for road tyres at the track
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.
