Electrical issues - FIXED
Besides blown fuses, what else could cause the indicators and headlight to not work? Everything starts and works as normal except there is no indicators and the headlight doesn't work at all. I have checked all the fuses and changed them around and it's not them so where do I look next? Are they connected in series some way so a blown bulb could cause both to go or is it likely to be in the ignition? It's on a ZRX.

Re: Electrical issues
You could be missing a neutral as well... you may need a 12volt test scewdriver or a multi meter

Re: Electrical issues
Your headlight and blinkers are on the left handlebar, is the plug connected from the handlebar to the controls on the grip? my six had a plug there.

Re: Electrical issues
I had a look at the left side controls as I thought the same thing. It all looked ok. There was no plug but I split the cover to have a look at the wiring inside to see if any had shorted out and it all looked fine.
I tested the headlight relay with a multimeter and it had power coming from it so I am assuming there is a break between it and the light. Not knowing where the wiring travels I was hesitant to start pulling it apart to chase it but I might have to do just that.
The thing that's confusing me is why the indicators are out as well as the headlight. Where or how are they connected?

Re: Electrical issues
What do you mean?

It's the 1100 not the 1200 so I haven't been fucking with anything to cause it either. It just stopped working.

Re: Electrical issues
I saw that you said the relay's had power. Check the power at the head light but use a frame point as ground. If you have voltage then there's a break in the ground line somewhere. I looked at the 1200 wiring diagram and the front indicators and headlight share a common ground, which is also shared with the idiot lights. If the idiot lights are on then the break is only in the line to the headlight and indicators, if they are not on but the taillight is it's somewhere inbetween those
. Should be a start. Good luck

Re: Electrical issues
Well a handy pointer is sometimes the frame ISN'T ground, like my bike for some reason. Really confused the crap out of me when sorting out an electrical gremlin.

Re: Electrical issues
The taillight is on but I can't remember whether the dash lights were or not. Thanks for that J.B at least it gives me somewhere to start. Will check it tomorrow.J.B wrote:I saw that you said the relay's had power. Check the power at the head light but use a frame point as ground. Dave, weren't you asking for help to change your brake and clutch lever? I'm surprised you don't have more to offer.DISCO wrote:Other than this I got nuffin...............

Re: Electrical issues - FIXED
[Homer voice]I am so smart. S. M. R. T. [/Homer voice]
All fixed.
Once I pulled the front cowl off and tested everything for power I traced it to under the tank. Once the tank was off I found a couple of plugs had pulled apart due to the wider bars that Rod fitted. The problem occurred after I bought the bike as I adjusted the bars to sit back a bit more which pulled the wiring too tight when you turned them. I rerouted the wiring, plugged everything back in and bolted it all back together and it all works. She's all ready to be picked up by the new owner.
Thanks for everyone's input.
