Tyre sizes

Post by kwakamad »

Hi, i was curious to no is it ok to run say a 190/50/ even a 195/55 on a zxr750 rim which would normally run a 180 rear?
I would have said "NO" as it could be dangerous at high speed ie track days and you should always run the recomended tyre size...
Was talking with a guy who races, recently who said it would be fine and no drama at all !!! Seems odd to me and if you were to run the larger
tyres what would be the difference handling safety etc?
Any info be great thx

It will probably slow your turnin a little , putting a wider tyre on .

To sum it up, cramming a tire into a smaller size rim will cause a multi radius tire.... And that will make it feel squared off and funny.... it will tip in slowly, then quickly and then reduce again as you get further into the lean angle...

Also, even though the theory is that this will get more rubber on to the road... tests didnt really show any improvement in grip...
The world is round. It has no point.

I always run 190/55 slicks on my zxr750 and it's fine (although raised at the back to compensate).
