Re: Toyota MR2 SW20-Right place, right time
ahhh the old sw20. You'll need to drop a jap 3s-gteu in there to get some turbo action. Then grab a CT26 of a 7M for a cheap bolt on turbograde, run 18psi through it and your laughin!
I might even sell my CT12's off my 1G soon which is a 2L 6cyl, so they might even go on!
Then again maybe i should put them on the Zed

I can't decide if this is gibberish or nerdish, but either way I'm sure it means something to someone - just not meSaki wrote:ahhh the old sw20. Re: Toyota MR2 SW20-Right place, right time
well SW20 MR2's which is the middle in question run a 3S-GE (non turbo) or 3S-GTE(turbo). the turbo fitted is called a CT26, which is the same turbo thats run on a 7M-GTE which is a 3L supra motor from older model. They both use a Ct26, except the 3S model has a ceramic impellar and smaller intakes, where as 7M model is larger and steel impellars!photomike666 wrote:I can't decide if this is gibberish or nerdish, but either way I'm sure it means something to someone - just not meSaki wrote:ahhh the old sw20. It's like listening to economists talk shop (hey Glen
My old Celica had a 3SGE engine in the front, and probably an extra 400kgs more than an MR2! Loved that car!
Love those late 80s/early 90s toyota gear boxes and engines!

Re: Toyota MR2 SW20-Right place, right time
Toyotas rule, we had a I think it was a 76 corolla (quote if wrong dear) it was bright red with green mags massive exhaust and ran on three cylinders for at least 12 months
now we still have a corolla seca which the plan was to drop a supercharged in it years and years ago but never happened she still kicks ass though.
MR2 rock though, mate had one with a supercharged in it hmmmmm dam miss the days of racing up the freeway.

The MR2 turbo is a real fun car, but I think I'll keep my RB26DETT

Re: Toyota MR2 SW20-Right place, right time
I've had the little MR2 for a year now.
I probably won't sell it in the near future, if ever. Driving home tonight, in a mix of dry and wet roads, it still made me giggle
It's fucking FUN to drive. It turns fast! Bloody fast! But, it's a real knack to keep it from backing itself around. I've got it sussed again now, but it took a few let goes before I finally remembered how to drive one. Now, it's almost as much fun as a bike...when it's wet and cold
I've taken it up some twisty roads a few times since I bought it, including a fang to Lavers Hill and back Via Skenes Creek.
It's a twitchy little thing, for sure, but it really is insane fun to punt hard through a bend. It stops hard, turns harder, gets grumpy in the back, straightens out and shoots off the turn if you get it right. If you get it wrong it just does the whole Porsche thing and starts driving backwards.
If any of you have driven a proper racekart of 125CC or more, then driving the MR2 is just like that......but the gokart is probably smoother
