I travelled down the island with Al driving (he is from NSW) and couldn't believe his indicating on exiting round-abouts when he was going straight through . I thought he was taking the piss , it seemed so stupid .
Now when I know it is a law in NSW I try to do it and it cant be good for the indicator stalk in the cage , crunches each time

Not all cops are bad; it just seems that the one's who are are in the highway patrol....

Now I've had my fair share of contact with these guys ( been banned more times than I have fingers ) BUT
When you spend 10 hours a day out on the road, watching tosser after tosser make mistakes which could potentially kill someone if the circumstances were marginally different..... I guess you'll have heard every excuse going, as to why.
It'd be only natural to book them ?

I know I don't ride as often as I would like, but each and everytime I have been out, I have muttered to myself at least once
"What a wanker - wish I was a copper.....I'd have him off the road"........... Admit it - you know you have all had the same thoughts
Always try to remember, that these same officers will be the one's to knock on your loved one's door should the unthinkable happen

I just did the daily trip up the entire length of Norwest Bvd (place is like a car park in peak hour) & there are 5 roundabouts, I did not see one driver indicate when going straight ahead, so I am glad to know I am not the only one

You're right - you're not the only one.
It's one of those stupid rules that causes more confusion that it supposedly clears - both for road users trying to follow it, and for road users watching others try to follow it.

I've haven't read every post, so others may have made the same rants already - don't care

In all but the largest roundabouts where you can't see all entry roads it's all but pointless as if you're paying attention you know where a car has come from and can normally tell where they're going based on whether they're indicating left, right or NOT.
Even on the larger roundabouts so long as you follow the give way to those on the roundabout rule you're fine - which is important when someone is actually doing a u-turn.

I find I can't trust most indication on roundabouts anyway and follow the latter give way rule.
There are those that don't indicate at all - 'I'm on the roundabout so have right of way'
There are those who, when going straight, indicate RIGHT for the right-hand bend, then left for the exit!!!
Then there are those who follow, or try to follow, the new 10yr old rule.

I do what I was initially taught - indicate left for left, right for right, nothing for straight, and give way to those on or entering the roundabout.
I've never had any issues with this - but if a cop fines me for it I'll cop it on the chin. Won't make me change though.

If something "feels" stupid it means it's "not" common sense and our road laws are supposed to be based on "common" sense.
You can make a shitload more revenue that way though because they know people will simply ignore it if it's not common sense.
If I ever got booked for something that stupid I would follow the coppa back to his station in my cage, then I would get out of the car
and take a piss on my L/H front wheel. Still legal because of the Horse and Carriage day's you know!

hmm, hope that they dont site there of a morning. Traffic is backed up to the construction site on old windsor road, so its filtering from there to the first round about on norwest blv for me

But to be honest, i never indicate to go straight on a round about. If its a funny shape and the oncoming traffic dont know what you are doing, maybe, buts its just BS.
