God knows how they do this, ...........my account was hacked into on friday and who ever hacked into it has taken money out on 3 seperate occasions
once for $210.16 ........another for $433.85........and another for $324.15........ and now my statment tells me I've used an ATM in canada and the funny thing is I've never been to canada, so I thought Id post this up for every one to be aware

my bank is investigating it (wetpac) and another thing you gotta be aware of is that who ever is doin this is takin small amount at a time so no one is aware their account is being hacked into.

The good thing is that the bank said to me is that if that is the case the money will be reimbursed

check your accounts and try using inside teller. I know its a pain but thats what we are up against.

Happened to us 2 years ago & they got over 10K in 3 transactions, it was tracked to some shonky woman in Tasmania.
The bank reimbursed us 2 weeks later but that wasnt the hassle...... the hassle was keeping that account open because we had hundreds of clients that would direct debit into it...... yes we had the added expense of mailouts but dont trust your customers to change deposit details in their computers we still had deposits going in a year later & having to do daily transfers to clear that account.

there are shitloads of scam emails going around just fishing for people... im with CUA and for the past two months have been getting st george and commbank emails, then finally i got a CUA one...

I get loads of the scam mails - if I have real concerns I log into the official page from my favourites and log in to check - neven click an e-mail link even if you think it is genuine.

Internet scammers target taxpayers with email

Cyber criminals purporting to be the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) are using a sophisticated email scam involving personal tax returns to fleece consumers, a computer security company says.

The scam ATO email, which promises a $250 bonus on top of a tax return, links the taxpayer to an online form that asks for personal details including ATM pin, credit card details and tax file number.
Instead of submitting the form online, the website asks for a printed version to be mailed to an address.

Symantec Australia and New Zealand managing director Craig Scroggie said cyber criminals captured the details when the print button was pressed, allowing access to the accounts.
"They are targeting a named brand and a trusted brand," Mr Scroggie told AAP.
"The crims are getting smart and they know people are aware of these phishing scams that are out there".

Phishing is a form of internet fraud used to acquire sensitive information like user names, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy source like a bank or the ATO.
"The email makes people think by printing it and mailing it, it's not exposing them like (a scam) normally would but when they press the print button it actually captures your details and sends them to the crims," Mr Scroggie said.

In a report published last year, Symantec found that as much $6 billion worth of credit card and bank details were exposed to cyber criminals, although the actual amount stolen is not known.
Mr Scroggie said internet thieves were hard to trace because they used remote - or mobile - servers, called bots, around the world to send bogus emails.
"Who it is specifically, we don't know," Mr Scroggie said.

"This particular scam originated in Sunnyvale, California. We tracked an IP (internet provider) address, but it's now inactive. We tracked the host servers to Germany.

"The reality is bot nets can be bought anywhere. China, Russia, you can buy the control of a bot net to distribute Spam anywhere in the world."
Late last week, the ATO published an online warning of a similar scam offering a 30 per cent tax bonus on top of a personal tax return.

ATO commissioner Michael D'Ascenzo said anyone who received the email should delete it immediately.
"The Tax Office never sends emails asking people to provide personal information including tax file numbers," Mr D'Ascenzo said in a statement.

We get dozens of Comm bank ones daily, I have the real comm bank hoax email addy so every single spam email gets forwarded on to them.... they must hate us because this have been going on for weeks

How the fuck do you get 16c out of an atm?

I typed it then realised its through the currency conversion. -- Just in case anyone else was going to ask
To do it through an ATM they would need a copied card and your PIN .......wouldn't they?

Always cover the keypad when you enter your PIN - this goes for eftpos as well. The didgit 5 always has the raised bit on it so you can find your way without looking.
