valve clearances

once you start hearing the "ticking" of the valve clearances (i'm guessing that's my new sound that i can hear)... do you have to do something about it right away, or can it wait another 40,000 Kms??? :( :? :P :lol: 8) (one of those is justified i am sure!) cuz i sorta don't have money for shims atm!!!

buy a GPx750..comes with screw and locknut adjusters.... :lol:

seriously mate
you may get another 10,000 out of it ..without adjustment
but I would not leave it any longer
so I guess...start saving

i wouldnt leave it for another 40,000 km's, but i wouldnt stress out about it either. Get it done as soon as practical but dont rush it and screw up your bank balance needlessly.

marty, i got a quote from bris dyno bikes at wacol for a service & tune(minus the oil & filter as i do it myself) valves reshimmed, front forks taken off, washed out & new fork oil & a dyno for $370...was pretty happy as some places wanted that much just to do the valve shims :wink:

hhhhmmmmmmm... now all i need is the TIME to drop it in. How long did it take Yapster? a day-ish?should i ring them and book her in first? sounds great to me! (i do the home oil changes as well... like knowing at least a bit about my bike: ie: what's going in and what stuff came out)

may b a little more 4 yours as it is fuel injected ,isn't it? could b a bit more work involved 2 get 2 the valves, i'm not sure m8, as it turns out i haven't had it done yet cause the week i was g oing 2 book it in, i ended up chucking it off the rd at mt mee, & since it is still being painted (midtowns painters third attempt at colour matching) i haven't worried as yet, pull ya lower fairings off b4 ya go, the more you do the less you r gettin charged 4 labour time for piddly shit like that tho. they should b able 2 do it in a day tho m8 :wink:

His is carb.. they didn't EFI them till '03

yeah carbies!! and it has somewhere around 42,000 clicks (your sorta clicks, i am converted!!! base "10" is so much easier... that's another story tho...)
anyway, i think i need the whole sha-bang done: filters, plugs, forks, brakes, lubes (all joints and main), etc, etc..... time is a bitch at the moment (only have time for playing on this site really!)
oh, the painter that midtown uses is hopeless... they did my tank and it is starting to bubble... gunna go back and have them re-do it, although last time took 3 weeks...... Farckin' Incompotent <yappa words here> pieces of shyte that are wasting our oxygen on this planet......

Cool, that sounds great. Good to see you've got one decent place for a service up in Brisvegas. There's very few places down here that are worth it, I'd only reccomend anyone go to BMS in Beaconsfield, who always do a fantastic job, very cheap and are more than helpfull with anything you throw at them.

As already suggested, make it easy when you do take the bike in and take off all the fairings n stuff, makes their job easier. Ring and check that they've got a good selection of shims to fit your bike as well, 'cause this can be the biggest hassle when doing them. Sometimes you might need to have another dealer etc handy who has a selection so you can order them and get them couriered over etc. Kwaks are pretty harsh on shims though, so it'd be good to get them done sooner rather than later. I've got a ZX10R and I reckon I'll get them checked at 6000km instead of waiting till 12,000km.

OT, but anyhoo. It's on the inside cover of the US edition of Aenima (the holigram one) by TOOL. So, it's a band reference basically. Just best to pick up a copy and read it :) Any excuse to get someone who hasn't already got a copy to get it anyway. Works for me!

42000 MARTY thats more than my old girl, i've only got 36000, which is pretty low k's 4 a 96 model. haynes manual recommends shims done at 30000k's

I got mine done on the zzr600 with Darcy last year cost $416 (basically add another $130 to your service cost). Make sur you take the bike in nice and early as they need to work on the shims cold. Fuck it makes a hell of a difference when its done, mine were well out almost to the pint where a couple of v/v's weren't closing. I had them done at 36000km also.
