Road Workers on Pacific Hwy

Post by boozatboo »

Hi guys n gals of da KSRC…

I have had the most amazing experience riding on the “new road”.
(the bit between Berowra and the PITS !)

I have the bad habit that everytime I have been out practicing on my bike I always go past the workers and I thank them for the
gorgeous new road they are laying as of course we will be the ones to benefit from it.

Anyway, after a few weeks of going past and saying g’day and thanking them out loud… (because what else is there to do when you’re stuck doing
40 and having to wait for 10 minutes for oncoming traffic to go past ???) some of them started yelling out : “Just for you”…

Anyway, a few more days went past… and one of the young guys asks me if I can park my bike… some of the guys wanted to meet me in person.
I was a bit funny of course, being a girl…alone… heading towards a bus with at least a dozen guys in it… When they saw me that was it…

“Heeeeyyyy…. what’s with all the riding everyday???”

One of them even thanked me because he said I am one of the very few that acknowledge them when I ride past.
They are a great bunch of guys… I have a picture of them trying to do some kudas…(not too successfully though)..

I just think that they are such a lovely bunch of guys that they would deserve something nice at the end of their work. They have 2 weeks left…
I was hoping to rock up one day with donuts, pies, beers… whatever just to say thanks from all of us… because at the end of the day, we are the ones that
will be enjoying it.

I just think it would be special to say thank you to people who are too often overlooked for the work that they do, and who honestly we couldn’t live
without. Where would we be without our trades people ???
No roads, no houses, no plumbing (eeewww) , no furniture… well I could go on , but I’m sure you get the picture…

Anyway, give us any feedback.. any thoughts…

If you ride past, just say g’day… they really appreciate it !!!

Here are the pictures that I got…

Andy. :kuda:

Unfortunately, I've heard of too many horror stories...

Seen too may times, gravel...dirt and other crap left over from their half assed unfinished work

and had dealings with a few not so friendly road workers to have a slightly different opinion :)

We pay tax....and they get paid well for what they do ;)

Good on ya Andi!

I usually have a chat too, when waiting for the go signal. There's often at least one rider in the bunch who is happy to have a chat or a chinwag. And it's always nice to have someone checking out your bike.
And I always give them a nod. Never hurts to be polite and friendly - costs nothing and makes you happier 8)

I can't believe you got them doing kuda's though  Well done mate! :kuda:

Well you know I am in hun, give us a hoi when you want the dosh for it, I think it's a great idea.

I do agree with you soundguy but I think maybe if we ask these guys nicely and I think they realise there are enough bikes that go down that road, that leaving gravel and stuff on that road, would be horrendously dangerous and apparently most of them have either ridden or do ride so here is hoping they clean up properly for us, but I do hear what your saying.

Yes Dizz...

I have spoken to them... and most of them have ridden bikes or have bikes sitting in their garages...

As for the previous comments about how horrible road workers are... bla bla bla... That's a great concept...

How many of us have been ripped off by mechanics...? or heard of our family members that have been ripped off by mechanics ???
Or had bad experiences with dodgy dentists ??? Or heard of thousands of horrible stories of what real estate agents
or lawyers are capable of ???

I mean I grew up with horrible stories about "bikers"... and the horrible things they used to do...
Hells Angels and all that jazz... It doesn't make all motorcyclists bad people...
Actually, most of them are decent folk, with proper jobs and families...

With this theory we would never be able to trust anyone in this world ...
It's not fair to catalogue people just because of stories... or a couple of unpleasant experiences...
There will always be rotten people that spoil the lot for the rest...

But I think that each individual should be given a fair chance... You can't live your life expecting the worst from everyone...

By the way Cath... the kudas and the photo were Richo's idea !!! He thought it would be great !!!

They didn't mind at all... they are such nice guys !!!

Anyway, I know my taxes are paying for their wages... It doesn't hurt to be grateful in this life...
I just thought for once, we could have a magical moment... Make this road memorable for these guys and for us...

Cool thread Andy, I always acknowledge the guys & will usually say hi to the guy with the stop go sign & have seen them up the Pits on the Friday rides but never spoken with them. I can agree with Fred as to the gravel situation its not good, but you will also find that it can appear as the surface settles (edge brakes off) not necessarily been left there, but every situation is going to be different. I would hazard a guess that if they ride bikes they would leave the surface relatively clean whan they are finishing up, its not like they dont know the ammount of bikes that ride up there.
I found the new sections before PITS seems quite clean last weekend & had only just been done :D

It was so funny... :D

Wasn't the best weather, but I gotta keep practicing... doesn't matter what the weather... right ???
Otherwise... I'm not worthy of being called a hard core biker bitch !!!
and I'll keep getting that HTFU thing you guys like posting up...
I always remember that when I'm whinging about the rain...

I Speak from personal experiences and not theories, having been a rider for almost 20yrs i've had my fair share.
I dont want to turn this into a discussion, just expressing my point of view.
Good luck with it all 8)

Also remember that it's usually not the workers fault that crap is left on the roads. Bosses are responsible for work allocation and signing off on completion.

If your travelling south on the Hume (on a bike) in the next few weeks expect to get a :kuda: from a certain traffic controller... :D
