Has anyone "crash-tested" Skins (or equivalent)?
I know there's a lot of ksrc members who wear Skins (or cheaper variations) under their leathers on the road and at the track.
I was wondering if anyone has crashed while wearing them? If so, what sort of crash was it and where was the impact (i.e, what part of you was hit) - did you slide down the road on your back? Knee jammed between road and the bike, taking most of the impact? etc
How did the Skins hold up? Was there any sign of "melting"? Was your skin abraded more, less, who knows???
Just wondering what the impact of wearing these products would be in a crash situation...

was wearing min during the OP crash Cath and I was moving slowly as you saw. I used my entire left side as a brake (including my head) and the Skins showed no sign of wear.
I have heard the melting rumour though and would suggest that would only happen if your Skin's were exposed to the tarmac.

Re: Has anyone "crash-tested" Skins (or equivalent)?
cath i have "tested them" hehe
turn 4 eastern creek, they didnt get exposed to the tarmac, although my leg was wedged between the bike and the tarmac while sliding fairly quick, no odd abrasions on my leg and no melting of the skins, they held up fine
i find they are alot more comfortable under the leathers and it helps to leather move, not wanting to stick to you skin as much.
also makes is so so so much easier getting them off once things start to heat up
hope this helps

I reckon if your leathers are getting hot enough to transfer enough heat through to melt them, you're in a whole heap of trouble already and would be getting some burns anyway.

I low sided T3 at EC in my Nike ones and suffered no leather pinch from my Gimoto suit.
I've also tasted the tarmac while cycling at about 45km/h in Skins underneath my lycra and they actually made things a little better, obviously they did tear and expose skin but it could of been worse.

Re: Has anyone "crash-tested" Skins (or equivalent)?
I expected there to be no melting or extra abrasion in crashes when worn under leathers, but was curious. It's probably pretty unlikely that anyone has crashed while wearing them without leathers (I'm thinking under jeans or draggins, not riding as a SkinsNinja with nothing else on).
That's interesting Matt, that you've stacked off the pushy in them. They aren't protective, so no surprises that they tore, but I'm pleasantly surprised there was no melting or anything. That's good

When i crashed the 9 i was wearing my skins and gave them a great workout cath
Bum , Knee's , Sholder's , Elbow's , Back and so on .
Not one spec of damage at all, and i even got impact abrasion's on my knee's and they are still fine.
Well worth the money I think.

After she said my arse looked really hawt in skins I ended up with small burn marks on both knees , but the skins were fine . Mind you it was a synthetic carpet .
