SMS received today
I got an SMS from Ray Quincey motorcyles in relation to the ad for my bike. The sms read;
"Ray quincey motorcycles will buy your bike 4 cash or sell it for you - 100% free".
I rang them to see what the go was. They then said I would need to take the bike in for them to have a look at it. Fairenough.
Has anyone had this sort of thing happen before? I can't imagine they would buy it for what I want for it would they? Would it be like a trade in type sell?? In otherwords, they offer me jack shit??
I don't wanna take it in for them to offer me chicken shit for it.
Cheers
Lisa

Re: SMS received today
They will insult you with the price they offer you
You can look at trade in price on Redbook and they will offer less than that

Re: SMS received today
Got my car on carsales and get a lot of calls from dealers and such...most offer half dealer sell price in red book etc or on consignment where I have no control over minimum price.

In otherwords, just don't worry about it then?
I am just not going to bother for them to offer me a price that I would get if I wanted to trade it in. Stuff that.
Cheers

Re: SMS received today
That's how most of these "CASH FOR YOUR BIKE TODAY" advertisers work. They talk you up over the phone and get you all excited and when you get there, they will point out everything that is wrong with your bike and offer you a pittance.............

Re: SMS received today
They are a pack of arse-wipes, don't go near them...
I went in there (once) looking to upgrade from my GPX250R. It was less than 18 months old, had done 11,000km and looked immaculate. The salesperson said $4-4.5k, but "he'd need to see the bike". Went back with the bike the following day and he acted like we'd never met, and my immaculate bike was worth $2.5k because 'there is so many of them around'.
Never will go back, they can now go get well and truly stuffed. Arseholes, hate being frigged around by smartarse POS salespeople.
Mick
PS> In hindsight it was maybe just as well and he probably did my a favour. The bike I was looking at was a Suzuki GSXF750. It was truly a hideous butt-ugly looking POS, but low enough for me to get my feet down on. Glad I didn't buy it, the ZZR600 I got instead was much better.

Re: SMS received today
Bikes, cars even furniture, they are just trying to make a sale as you are, bottom line you will never get as good a deal on a trade in as when you sell it privately, well most of the time, unless you got mates in the industry, otherwise your better off selling yourself.

Yeah stay well away!
....unless you have the stomach for a bit of fun, and you could rock up when the place is really busy, tell them exactly the price you want.
When they say they can't give you that much, but instead $2k less GO APE SHIT "The Chaser" -Style tell them they wasted your time with their tricky marketing, are trying to rip you off and storm out.

Re: SMS received today
Yeah, Ray is a scumbag allright, He sits in his chair all day & rings people who are advertising their bikes on Bikepoint/Tradingpost/Just Bikes/etc & says "bring it in & I'll buy it off you" he tried it with me once so I humoured him & said
"I've got it advertised for $10,500 mate, are you willing to pay that?"
"I'd hafta see the bike"
"OK, so when you see the bike & realise there's nothing you can pick at to reduce the price, will you pay $10,500?"
"Probly pretty close to that"
"If I come in there & you offer me $7000, I'm gunna tip you out of your wheelchair & stomp on your head, still wanna buy my bike?"
"Don't worry about it"
I worked in a bike shop in the City (Melb) a while ago & his mechanics used to tell stories about people slapping him in the head, tipping his desk over, etc in a rage when they'd ridden their bike in because he'd promised them what they were asking - only to be offered 2 or $3k less.

Re: SMS received today
Some good stories, love the chaser style one. haha. I will stay away. I can't be bothered with the bullshit to be honest. I just knew it was when I got it, but because I hadn't sold anything on there before, thought I better check.
Will stick to my guns on selling privately. Thanks everyone.
Cheers
