Suspension setup figures

I've acquired a set-up manual published by Performance Bikes a little while ago, and am posting the info below.

Bikes covered are:
ZX6R(98-99)
ZX6R(00-01)
ZX7R(96-03)
ZX9R(98-99)
ZX9R(00-01)

These are the only Kwaks listed, but there are other makes avail, list posted also. PM me if you want further info or settings.

Sorry guys but i reckon that doing ur suspension to a certain article or recommendation is a load of shit. Even if the best riders recommend it.

Suspension is to be setup how u want it. After getting my shocker done and having been reading books upon books, articles after articles, spoke to suspension pro's.... i have found out that suspension is not a black art, its not magic or confusing. Its simple hooks law and physics.

Suspension is how u want it and what u feel comfortable with. Some like it hard, some like soft. Different conditions (road/track) demand different settings.

U can use a general rule of thumb as per the articles for prelaod, but for compression or damping its how quick or how slow u want the suspension to act. What ur happy with and not what someone else is happy with.

As for the setting listed above for the 7r its a load of shit for someone my size. Also to have the rebound on 3 or 4 ur gonna do ur back riding the bike on the road.

Your right about setup being personal preference but at least this gives us a starting point or a point of reference.

I somewhat agree, more so with the preload settings though as they give some of them in static sag. This is based on the bike weight only and doesn't take into account rider weight. The sag should always be set with the rider on board and be around 30mm to 35mm front and rear (for the road) 25 to 30mm (for the track). There is no set rule though and its personal preferance.

If you can't get these figures you need to consider different spring rates.

Setting preload with just the bike weight can give varied results as a lot of adjustment doesn't make much difference, put a rider on the bike and the adjustment differences are visible.

There's no such thing as generic settings. You have 100's of incorrect settings available to you and one correct one.
