[UPDATED] Apparently my bike is/isn't/is/isn't a write off

if you are gonna lose your licence with a 10, you are going to lose it with a 6
The 10 is good for not changing gears all the time and still having good power.

Ok the 09, 6 does sit substantially lower than yours and would feel al lil smaller than yours.

Basically it boils down to the phsycology of it, we're creatures of habit and like you said you have adjusted your bike to how you like it, you will be able to do the same with the next bike you get, like you said the only reason you would get a newer 6 model would be for the lower Kms, if you going to do that and have been interested in a 10 you may as well get the 10, it's something different, yes you probably won't use the extra power on the road, but it will be something a lil than a 6, but that is something only you can decide in relation to which way to go.

I know you love Genki, but you will fall in love with your next bike heaps to and if you can keep Genki to either strip down for parts or sell to someone else as a repairable write off you may end up with a lil more mulla again.

The otherside as you said, it will save you upgrading in a couple of years and it will save you dosh.

Only you can decide but you will fall in love with your new baby and this sort of situation doesn't come along every day, but again only you can decide.

Your other option, get the new bike, keep Genki in the garage for a while, while you get used to the new bike, if it doesn't work out, you sell the new one and fix up Genki yourself.

Ooooh that's a tough one Cath. I don't have any real input other than to say the 09 ZX6R is awesome (so awesome in fact that I'm tempted to go back to a 6)... and the crims are awesome too. But you love your Genki... hard call. I know you can handle whatever you get your butt on... and good luck with the decision making!

Yeah - that's about where I'm at right now. We don't ride bikes for economical reasons (otherwise this would be the postie bike riders club!), so it comes down to wants, not needs. I'm prepared to be anywhere up to 2K out of pocket at this point in time, as long as I end up on a bike I love.

To those suggesting it as a tracky - if I didn't already have Typhyny, I would have it as a tracky in a flash. Dave doesn't want it as a tracky - he has some unexplainable sicko love for fat, old, heavy bikes I've given up trying to understand or convert him!




This thread has clarified my thoughts a bit though. It is all about the heart, and while I really *like* a lot of bikes (the '08 ZX6, the '09 ZX6, the gumby, etc), there's only 3 bikes I LOVE. I *love* my bike. And I *love* the titanium crim (there's one for sale at the moment that would cost me nothing to switch to). Now I just need to pick which one I love more. (the third bike I love is out of my price range)

The biggest concern (for me at least) would be that your bike probably is at the stage where the KM's traveled is getting on the high side to consider prolonging it's life in your stables. I am sure you could do it up fine however you would be far more behind in resale value because of the KM traveled compared to the insurance payout value you could recieve.

As for a 10r and knowing how you ride I would actually advise against the 10r (cant believe I am saying this ) becuase of the temptation to throw away your licence on the road. Sure it's not muh quicker in total speed wise than the 6r but you get there alot bloody quicker which is the damaging factor.

I think if you could get away with getting another 05-06 6r with less KM's without any impact to your hip pocket then that would be the way that I would go.

Gobsmacked to hear they have written the bike off, and disappointed for you. However, keeping your baby comes with a whole baggage in itself.

As a repairable write off, you will have to go through the reregistering porcess to get it back on the road. Probably not to hard, but a pain the the arse. And, when you do finally decide to upgrade, the resale value will be far less as it will still carry the write off status.

I would honestly go the new bike. As to which one? I lean towards the 1000, and not just because I have one, or that you dream of one, but because of the following.....

If you ride the ssame roads at the same speeds, the motor is far less stressed and should last longer. Due to the increased mid range and amazing top end, you can ride your favourite roads without all the gear changes - leaving you to enjoy the ride.

On the down side, you will lose the high rev buzz that the 600 gives you - or at lease you will be going ballistic if you do find the high revs buzz. You will also need to be more positive on corner entry counter steer due to the increased crank inertia.

I had a quick ride of red_dave's 636 on the way home the other week and robracers at Eastern Creek a while back. The 636 feels heaps lighter, easier to throw around at low speed on the road, get through traffic etc. Turned quick smart compared to Tora at any speed. But it didnt have the low down rpm torque Im used too for the road and hence prefer the lazy option of sitting in any gear of the 10. I dont have the road experience to back up any true comparison but for a sportsbike Id happily live with either!

I'm not sure I'm following along. It won't have a "write-off status" if I keep it. It will just be a bike that has been damaged, and I've taken a cash payout from the insurer and repaired it myself. It's just a repaired bike, nothing more or less (as far as I'm aware). Unless we're talking about different things, or I'm not getting something?

One man's trash is another man's treasure, I guess. That's one of the things I love about the 6's. Every road is fun - getting right up it, high in the revs, making her squeal a little, up and down the gearbox. The high rev buzz, as you put it, is where I have most of my fun!

From READING, the 09 zx6r is a hell of a bike, and i rekon 40,000+ks is saying good opportunity for your insurance company to buy you a new low k bike.

I spent some time online looking at the prices of ZX6's ('08 & '09s) and ZX10's (crims and gumbys), then left work and spent my train commute thinking about this.
I decided that as much as I liked the idea of getting a new bike with low kms, I wasn't in love with the '08 or the '09 ZX6 (though I do like them heaps, don't get me wrong - I'm not bagging them out at all!). But then what if the 2011 ZX6 model was the one I fell in love with? I probably couldn't justify upgrading so soon after the last upgrade... or more importantly, the Finance Minister probably couldn't justify it So, I decided I'd either keep Genki, or get a ZX10.
Then I thought about my riding style and what it is about my 6 gives me so much pleasure. And playing up higher in the rev range is a big part of that. Maybe a ZX10 isn't for me? Maybe it's more the idea of a ZX10 that I am attracted to, rather than the reality? So I'd kinda decided, unless the final cash settlement deal was insultingly dismal, I'd just keep her for the time being and repair as much as was practical.
Yeah, I know. It's not the "best" choice, going by financial considerations, but there's more to life than money (as long as you have a roof and food, of course). I'll never be able to sell the bike for what it's insured for, but I'm not ready to sell her yet - I'm still enjoying riding her too much!

So I rocked up at the repairer and had a chat with them. They had a chat with the insurance assessor. I had a chat with the assessor. Everyone chatted with everyone. Everyone agreed it was not a write-off and that someone in the insurance office was smoking crack. And now, QBE will be receiving a recommendation to repair Genki by the end of the day I hugged the repairer. Woulda kissed him too if he wasn't so quick about dodging

Worst case, I may have to pay part of the cost to get my exhaust replaced. Or I may get it repaired as well as it can be (The cheapest I can get a replacement slip-on in Australia is $1500). I'm happy with the outcome. So far - things could still go haywire when you're dealing with insurance companies! I won't breathe easily until it's all finalised, I must admit.
