Re: GGGRRRRRRRRR AARRRRRRRRRRRRGH!
Interesting suggestions, snorky and ttc... You've got me thinking.
I'm also thinking about a motorcycle-related job, but am a bit unsure right now... will have to do a bit of research and thinking.
As of today, I have no job at the end of the week (contract is expiring during a hiring freeze - I didn't just get fired)

That sucks.
You could be a bike-cop, a courier, a CSBS instructor - lots of possibilities Cath
I'm not as grumpy this week.

thought about becoming a courier, buy a heap of shit traily or something to run into the ground... my job gets very repetetive at times... i also wouldnt mind being a chauffer... just get to drive around all day, in a relatively nice car, with relatively nice/rich people in the back...

Re: GGGRRRRRRRRR AARRRRRRRRRRRRGH!
It sucks how contract renewals get classes as "hiring", even though it is just a continuation. Good luck with it, at least you've got a few months to go to Christmas, last time i got a contract terminated early the fuckers had me and my entire team out the door no more than two weeks before the end of the year!Cath wrote:As of today, I have no job at the end of the week (contract is expiring during a hiring freeze - I didn't just get fired)

Re: GGGRRRRRRRRR AARRRRRRRRRRRRGH!
Manager hat on for a minute - contract renewals get classed as 'hiring' because continuation is rarely assumed. A contractor is a short-term fixed cost to the business. The various budgets are almost always done around that cost no longer existing at the end of the contract period - hence renewing a contract is re-hiring. It has to be budgeted and re-approved. Some businesses budget around an expectation of contracts continuing but not many do (I think).
Manager hat off now - it does suck and I hope you do find something soon Cath.
I don't think I could handle being a contractor.

Unfortunately that makes sense, doesn't mean it sucks any less. Guess the majority of my experience with contracts ran contrary to this as you said sometimes occurs.

Re: GGGRRRRRRRRR AARRRRRRRRRRRRGH!
Well, it's just been confirmed. My last day is tomorrow.
The project funding (including contractor wages) has been approved. But the contractors haven't been yet. Maybe we'll get a call in a few weeks, maybe we won't. Either way, we all got the "Don't come Monday" speech
So. Anyone up for a Monday Putty run?
(Dave will so kill me if he sees that!)

Re: GGGRRRRRRRRR AARRRRRRRRRRRRGH!
Went to get a bike key cut at Mister Minit.
Me "how much to get a couple of keys cut?"
them "starts at 8 bucks"
"cool i'll get these 2 cut thanks" (i produce my 2 new blank kwasaki keys and my master key)
Them "oh, they are $59 bucks each to cut"
"what? i know you cant program them, i just want them cut"
them "its 59 each because they are an immobiliser key, and if stuff we it up we cant replace it, oh and we dont gaurentee anything"
me "so if you cant gaurentee it, why do i need to pay extra?"
them " because it is an immobiliser key"
story went on...
basicly he couldnt explain to me why it costs 8 bucks to cut a front door key (key included) but when i turn up with my own key, its 59 bucks even though they wont wear any responsibility.
i got told to go away as he dad customers to serve.
all this after i just paid fucking 65 bucks a key from mr fucking Kawasaki!
fucking bad day. hopefully tomorrow i'll get it cut cheaper

The small franchise chain's are often not competitive on price.
In 'the great hail storm' of 07 my car windshield needed replacing.
Windscreens obrien - $450 had to wait a week... Got 2 other random quotes to check because it seemed high, $210 and $240 next day!
