Rear Hugger Plastic Weld and chain replacement

Hey guys, had a whoopsie on the weekend and had to get the bike towed back to base after a joining link failed in the hills.

The chain let go and snapped the rear hugger

just after anyones reccomendation on how to put this back together as i have jsut lost my job so funds are tight, kwaka wants $350 for areplacement (is there any cheaper after market options?) and they said around $100 to plastic weld it, but apparently its not the right kind of plastic so it probably wont work... (its labeled PP on the back)

also a quick question about chain replacement, is there a tool that can make putting the joining link back together right and wheres the best place to get one from..

Probably Polypropylene.
Selleys Plasti repair won't work, I know that much
Once that stuff is broken it's a prick to repair (sturdily)
Some of the putty type repair kits may do the job. (the two part epoxy you knead together)
Try Supercheap or similar
Some of that shit sets like steel

That's a big truck for a little bike!

Any bike shop should sell you a tool like a G-clamp with recessed tips that fit the rivet ends. Or use a railway sleeper on one side and a big hammer on the other (not recommended, but works in an emergency). Huggers have a tendency to crack due to vibration - not sure how the plastic welding would last.

Was the bundy rate based on the size of the bike or the truck?

its only a few cans due to the fact that it takes him 2 mintues to get home to drink them, they dont go cold ya see...

Neither are cheap, but cheaper than the genuine kwaka one.

I would go down to the local bunnings and buy a small length of thin aluminium sheet, bend at a right angle (length-ways), drill some holes in both alu sheet and each peice of hugger, then rivet 3 peices together making sure alu bit is on the inside..
If you took your time and were precise i imagine it would look OK and should be strong enough. You can also get black rivets to minimize the visual out-of-place-edness.

Did that make enough sense for anyone to visualize?
