Which tyre for zx6r 06
Which tyre for zx6r 06
Hey guys
i am seriously a noob when it comes to tyres...
i have the original bridgstones on my zx6r 06 model and they are going on 4 years old now,
they have a puncture repair and only have around 2mm of tread
i believe i should get new tyres? i was told that the original tyres where quite hard anyway.
seeing this is my first sports bike i really wanna start off with some nice grippy reliable tyres.
please point me in the right direction!!

My opinion, Bridgestone 016 for general road use or 003's for more sportier use, I love my Bridgestone's

Re: Which tyre for zx6r 06
The best tyre I ever had on the '06 ZX6 was the Pirelli Corsa 3's. I'd usually get around 8000 kms out of a set, but at one point I got 11000 kms from a set when riding much less aggressively. They got extremely hard to find in the correct profile though. If you do find any - please let me know where, as I'll buy a couple of sets!
Since I couldn't locate a set of Pirelli's last time I needed tyres, I currently have the Pilot Powers on. They are very good - very close to the Pirelli's for grip and feel, just a slightly less smooth transition at the last part of the lean. They seem to be wearing pretty well and I consider them a good compromise between price, grip and longevity. I'd recommend them for your bike
The Bridgeys that Rob mentioned are good too. I find the 016 not quite as user-friendly as the Pilots, and I wouldn't expect to get good tyre wear and life out of the 003's, but I could be wrong. Rob - do you have 003's on the roadie? If so, how many kms have you gotten out of them?
But nothing beats those Pirelli Corsa 3's on the '06

Re: Which tyre for zx6r 06
Cath its a bit hard to tell the longevity with the 003's as I have used them on the tracky then finish them off on the road, not to mention the other ones I acquired
The 003's don't last a long time, the last set saw about 3000k's after being used at 3 track days. The 003's are more track orientated than road, so it is to be expected that they wont last long, my guess from new 5- 6,000 K's not thrashing them on a roadie
Bushy what's your budget & how often can you afford to change rubber? this is what I would be looking at... One good bonus is that the 6's dont plough through tyres like the 10's

red_dave asked me to have a go on his 636 as he felt there was something wrong. First decent bend and yeah there was something wrong alright! The OEM tyres
Was taking it easy as its not my bike and the rear let go without any effort! That was a few months ago and Im hoping by now he's changed them damn tyres
Whatever you get they will be better

Ha ha yeah i didn't think they felt right,
i would rather spend the extra money to maintian great grip to the road so price really isn't a problem
i think i like the idea of the michelin pilots mayby, when you talk about the profile what do you mean? should i worry about that yet?

red_dave didnt have oem tyres on his 6.
they were completely squared off pilot powers. that the previous owner rode fron NT to sydney on.

Pilot powers are good all round tyres. the back gets a little squirmy when you just tip it on, but once you get some lean angle they are great!
my favourite road tyre by far

Re: Which tyre for zx6r 06
I still have to say that the BT016's are my favourite. They dont last to long though, I am stoked if I can manage 5k front and rear.
It's all personal opinion based. For instance I dont like Corsa 3's but Cath cant say enough good things about them and she can certainly hold her own on the road.
you'll need to start experimenting
(tyres that is.......

and you cant compare OEM anything to anything. OEM and aftermarket are chalk and cheese.

400 max for standard pilot powers.
500+ for pilot power 2ct's (they have softer sides) good, but not really a neccesity

Re: Which tyre for zx6r 06
are you primarily commuting? have you considered Pilot Road2's ?
but i guess theres no point if the Pilot Power offers the same durability for commuting with the hard compound centre ...
...i think i just answered my own question.
