Is it gearbox or carbies?
I've just noticed in the last few weeks that my bike has been playing up slightly under hard acceleration once the bike gets around 1/2 to 3/5 revs (6-8k or so) when i have it at half to 2/3 throttle i can feel a slight snap or surge and the revs pause for a half second and then she feels like she has a little bit more gusto than before. I don't think that its a gearbox issue as the revs stay almost the same and only differ 200-300 revs tops, if that. I will have to have a bit of a look at it to figure the symptoms out to see exactly what's been happening.
What i suspect is that perhaps one of the sliders isn't moving smoothly and when i get the bike under throttle the slider moves past the point it is stuck at and off she goes. Anyone else have any more ideas?

I would not think it was the gearbox. It sounds to me like the carbs are messed up. But before I got carried away overhauling the carburators I would check your chain, as a snatchy chain will cause similar symptoms. I was having similar problems and going nuttier than I already am trying to tune it out with my PCIII and noticed a few chain links were sticking, I replaced my chain and it's like a new machine. Have a couple of shots and a brew and it will all become clear. Good luck!

Well on the way in to work this morning i payed attention to what gear i was in when i gave it some to test it out. Certainly comes down to carbies as i was in second before it happened and stayed in second afterwards.
As to the chain & sprockets? I put on a new chain 3500k ago at the superbikes and new sprockets as soon as i was able to get them when i got home (mech on p.i. didn't have the right sprockets, which i guess was good as i got gouged enough as it was). so only 2000km~ish since sprockets were changed. I'd be surprised and pissed if it was a problem with either of those.

I'm thinking when i get some spare time (hopefully Christmas eve as there is no way in hell i am going on the roads that day for any reason at all). i had a feeling it was carbs but just wanted to get a bit of a second opinion as to what the potential cause could be. I might pull the carbs out and give them a bit of a once-over for the sake of it. I guess i'll know more then.

check the routing of your throttle cable, and also the fitting of the cable into the switchblock / throttle assemble. My guess is that you may have some issues in this area......

Interesting Gos, the last owner had rerouted the cables in a path that was totally different to what the manuals stipulated, to be honest it looked like the guy took the laziest cable routing path that "worked", regardless of where it slung the thing.. In an effort to tidy things up (in addition to lubing the cables) i rerouted them to go via the correct path according to the manual. I will certainly look at this when i take the tank off to have a look, but i never got any feel from the throttle resistance that there was ever any change in progression or feel with the springs resistance.
