I have been thinking about getting a iridium visor for my helmet.
I was wondering, how well they reduce glare/block out the sun on sunny days compared to a tinted visor, also can you use them at night.
Anyones experience with the pros and cons of these visors would be appreciated
They scratch real easy which is their worst point, they do not block the sunlight as much as tinted & because of this are a bit easier too see at night, not that I would want to do it too often.
I use them at the moment because they are cheeper than regular tinted for my model helmet.
I've used blue iridium for the last 3 years and have never had a drama. I went this way because of the extra glare they block out. You do need to buy the expensive ones thou, not chinese crap. Also cleaned them with a number of products and cleaning cloths and haven't had one scratch or loss iridium yet.
My iridium cost the same price as my dark tinted - $49. Had it for about 6 months without scratching it but I clean it after every days ride. I like it but it's not everyone's taste. It does seem to have less glare than the dark tinted visor. Since it's the same price as the tinted one I'm happy to use it.
I don't like the term insane - I prefer mentally hilarious!

Just as a matter of interest how often would you ride? & have you replaced it ? or is this the same one for 3 years.
My Visors short longevity stem from daily use 2hrs daily commute & only transport on the weekends so basically 7 days a week riding, my situation is different now so back then it was worst case scenario I suppose.
On the night riding though. If you have a bingle, some might try to argue that your restricted vision played a part in causing the accident. I know I would.
See here, young man,
From Walgett to the sea,
From Conroy's Gap to Castlereagh,
There's none can ride like me.
Hmmm i love my iridium ones... I reckon they last about 1week before I have scratches though Hmmm perhaps I should be more careful.... generally it is grazing it against something in the garage something stupid like that..... lol
Alot will depend on the brand of helmet - and consequently visor.
I have an Iridium, Dark Tint, Light Tint and clear - I use the one that is best for the conditions. I dont use Iridium or tinted at night as the clear is always in my bag.
I have - as have others - found though that the iridium ones dont last anywhere near as long as the tinted, for my brand of lid that is.
I prefer Irridium screens over tinted, IMO they are more affective reducing glare and vision is better when natural light dims substantially. But my Shoei Irridium visor is six months old and isnt fairing very well! Stone chips & scratches. I think Irridium screens are good but you need to replace them more often.
