Top Victorian traffic cop caught speeding!

Post by climbatize »

Anyone see the news today?

"VICTORIA'S top traffic cop has been caught speeding through a country town.

Deputy Commissioner Ken Lay was snapped at 10km/h over the 70km/h limit by a covert speed camera as he drove through Tooborac on the Northern Highway on October 1.

He lost three demerit points and was fined $245.

The offence happened two months before a Christmas road blitz named Operation Aegis, in which he slammed drivers who disobeyed road laws and warned they would be caught.

It was Mr Lay's first driving offence after almost 35 years on the roads."

"On this occasion I was very lucky - I didn't drift into a tree, I got snapped (by a speed camera).

"I need to be more aware. I'm luckier than a lot of Victorians who weren't. I'm still here to talk about it.

"Lots of people die in exactly those kinds of circumstances.

"It's been a valuable lesson for me."

Arrrrggghh.. what a dick!

So how does speeding direct you toward trees exactly?

Errm yes.. and 10km/h will surely do it.

Imagine if the information had leaked out when the offence took place in October. Their operation would have collapsed.

I've been booked in Tooborac for the same speed, the guy hides in the pub carpark and scans the road from there...not that there is much else in Tooborac to hide in .

Tooborac is the pub, a few houses and a 70kh/h zone in the middle of nowhere. The road is really wide, not really a black spot, except after dark on a new moon.

It is alleged that the offence was covered up, so that the Christmas media campaign was not compromised.

Rob, I think they have changed it quite recently..

Exceeding the speed limit by 10km/h or more but less than 25km/h = 3 points..

Rob is right, the current law in NSW is $84 and 1 point for a car or bike
For trucks and big rigs the fines go up to $250 for class B and $340 for class C

Edit: i should add, that this applies to non learner and provisional riders and across all classes you only lose 1 point (or to be politically correct, incur 1 demerit point)

For learners and provisionals i think they lose 4 points, out of the 4 their licence permits...so bye bye licence

talking vic here...robracer is right........ was done for same offence on mirboo nth rd a while back 3points $245 fine....now have been given 1 point for twelve months good behaviour..option was loss of license 3 months per chance will survve it.....or a six month suspension will follow
As for 35 years without a speeding fine ..hmmmmmmmmmm was it first time on camera ....per chance rest of possible offences not recorded......as he is a policeman (appologies aardy)
