squeaking when accelerating

Post by Reedy »

Any ideas what would be causing a squeaking noise only when accelerating. It's like a little mouse is being squashed. I went over the bike to make sure there was no loose screws but it still happens. It's been getting progressively worse since going up the old road a week ago, i went up there today and now its really squeaking. The only things iv'e done to it was ring the crap out of it (but it always gets that) a week ago and wash it. Then horn was a bit loose and rubbing on the radiator so i took that off. I was guessing it might be the chain, so lube is the next step. The front caliper was a little bit wobbly but apparently that's normal...

It hasn't lost any power or rides any different just a really annoying squeaking noise when accelerating.

It's not the keys, i checked that first :)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks

Does it sounds like a metal-to-rubber squeak, or a metal-to-metal?

I remember the first time I rode a Hyabusa. Part of me squeaked a little bit. ;)

...but this looks like a Ninja 250, so unless it has nitrous your sphincter can stay safely puckered.

It sounds like metal to metal.

no nitro on ninja250 but there's a 96 kg bag of methane that gets on it

Brake pads rubbing? - Wouldn't happen with just acceleration though.
Loose muffler?
Rear suspension mounts?
Rear wheel bearings?

Im getting this metal to metal noise too!... Are you up to 12000kms? Because im due to get the major service dont to it... Valve clearances and such... im strongly suspecting its withing the engine... because ive stripped the whole bikes fairing down to naked and tried accelerating it to 7000rpm where the noise starts and its within the front part of the engine

Is it constant or does it go "squeak" "squeak" "squeak"?
If its the latter, does it get faster with speed or engine revolutions?
Does it get louder and quieter?

Give your front disc a wipe with a clean rag, all the way around and on both sides of the disc. May as well do the rear while your at it. Also check your pad wear.
You could also give the front wheel bearing a quick squirt with some CRC or WD40 (DO NOT GET IT ON THE DISC).
If you havent lubed the chain then do that, but they dont really squeak either.

Not much in an engine squeaks, stuff rattles, clunks, grinds, occasionally squirts, bangs etc. But not much squeaks (big end bearing maybe, but i doubt it)

The z750's were known to have it too.....Hype worked out on mine that that there was a distinct lack of axel grease on the front wheel. All fixed now :)

Come to think of it on both 6's the front & rear axels were near dry the first time they came out :?

the axle greaseomly reayy helps with getting the axle in and out. the bearings dont spin on the axle.

make sure the bearings have plenty of grease but. 8)
