just wondering if its worth my while to invest in a bike cover as i'll be living down in watsons bay from this weekend so was wondering if it'll help protect the bike some what. Been told theres undercover parking but not expecting to have any. and want to help protect from the salt air. So wondering if anyone has any ideas/tips/advice please

Re: bike cover help
The sun will kill your paint for a start so get a cover.........as for salt air.... well you cant stop that with a cover unless it was totally sealed

Re: bike cover help
Can't hurt..... so I would think you are better off with it than without it. I looked at a bike for a mate a couple of years back that was left out in the weather and it was ratshit..... little things like fairing screws, the alloy had tarnished, the paint was dull, it just looked twice as old as it was, despite the low klms. plus they are not that expensive nowadays....
might want to fix your signature also Philbo.... someone has put some grafitti on there..... something like %&$# 750
I don't understand what it means.

Re: bike cover help
Hey Philbo, I would get the cover as any bit of protection is better than none. As for the salt air, giver her a rinse once a week and some wd-40 on all of your exposed unpainted parts then a wipe off!
That should slow the oxidation process!

Re: bike cover help
I lived at Watson's Bay for a couple of years, went away frequently and only made the mistake of leaving my bike out once. I came back after a couple of months and it was rapidly turning into rust; the fastest I have ever seen.. Definitely a cover is better than nothing but if you can get it out of the wind as well that helps - my cover used to blow off regularly..
+1 with the WD40 as well, I coated the exposed parts of my bike with it and it helped prevent rust but not entirely; unless you really get in all the nooks and crannies..
Prevention far better than cure; if you can think of anywhere at all to store it inside or failing that at least with wind protection, then that would be your best bet..
