Re: great debate + 1....
What is the difference between a sport and an activity?
We had great fun taking the piss out of a guy who won a line-dancing competition.
He swore black and blue that line-dancing was a sport & of course we took great pleasure in arguing the opposing view.
Curling, darts, table tennis, synchronised swimming, AFL, rugby, bridge...where is the line?

i think its a great "olypic " sport....not sure about the "olympics" tho
on the serious side why the F#** not...sliding down the ice sweeping so a lump of stone can find a target or closest to centre ...think of some of the sports in the OTHER olypics

I have to teach what the difference between sport and a recreational activity is, but I'm not telling you lot.
It's much more fun to watch the argument.

Flying a kite down the beach with your kids.....is an activity.King Nicholas wrote:......What is the difference between a sport and an activity?.....
Flying a kite in a competition - is a sport. ( Don't laugh, they do it !!

Kicking a footy around the backyard with your mates......is an activity.
When you and those same mates run out onto a footy field - that's sport !
I could go on and on, but better check out the other thread first !!

Does it count as a sport - yes! There are winners and losers; it's competitive so therefore it is a sport.
Is it a sport that deserves to be Olympic? Along with many others, NO

You obviously haven't seen me wrestling with a misbehaving skein of yarn!

Interesting approach, photomike - if it's competitive, it's a sport. Pretty simple line. But then how do you decide which sports are Olympic-worthy and which aren't? My preference would be to say that if the winning factor is measured it's in - if it's judged, it's out (i.e, 200m freestyle = in, synchronised swimming = out).
Come on Nelso - tell us the answer. I have a few ideas, but nothing that I'm willing to say is the ultimate definition and arbiter. It's been interesting trying to think of what the differences between a sport, a game and an activity are - but now it's time to put your definition out there so we can argue with you and throw potato scallops at ya!
