Re: Engine covers and Race preping on a budget.!
I had a stock caliper bolt sheer; it was 9 years old and went before I reached torque setting, so I replaced all four with Ti bolts from Tasty Nuts. The heads will be Ti too. I might just purchase another set with drilled heads. Wish I had have done this initially.Blurr wrote:...photomike666 wrote:...
Am I in trouble as I purchased Ti caliper bolts and they are not drilled?
4. The high tensile caliper bolts are only high tensile at the shaft. The actual head is just forged steel I am guessing. If yours are Ti all the way to the top then you will need a diamond head drill bit and alot of patience. My advice is to go back to the High tensile bolts.

Water is slippery too though...
Well there you go. In all honesty that was my first thought but I wouldnt have thought coolant was any more slippery than water, so it led me to believe that it had something to do with the chemical effects.

I bought a selection of 1 to 3mm drill bits from ebay..
Bits that small are always gunna break.. especially drilling into round allen head bolts and the like with a hand held drill and vice grips..
I figure its still cheaper than a drill press... Did 4 bikes with em.

Re: Engine covers and Race preping on a budget.!
nice work on the c/f covers there ! Mark from cR - old mate on the FZ1 track bike who has done a couple of track days with us - was asking me tonight about the engine cover rule - he is entering in the St George series, will be racing at WP on the 18th April......I'll send him a link to this thread so he can see how trained professionals do it

I don't think its mandatory mate, but its good insurance.....ducatipaul wrote:....Got a photo of a Lockwired Caliper? I gues I'll have to do that to mine? is that a new(ish) rule?...
