Pressure Gauges

Has anyone found a pressure gauge that is light easy to use accurate and not overly expensive? If so please let me know I am sick of the inaccurate recordings from the garages and the one that came with my toolkit on the ZRX is fiddly at best, but I must admit it does work but is hard to read with my failing eyesight.
Also anyone had any experience with small garage compressors?

PS would be nice if someone with a bit of talent would get on a ZX10 in WSBK and give those damn Suzies a hurry up.

I have a 2.5hp GMC compressor
with lines for rattle gun and tyre inflators
and nail guns etc
more than adequate..at Bunnings around $200
and sometimes they have them on special with a 'kit' as well

Yep I know what you mean, damn things are so inaccurate, anyway I have a few guages and the best one so far is the digital one made by "Oxford" in England called "Digi-Guage", has a anti-shock casing, backlight display, water resistant and even has a led light to find the valve in the dark.
Also has a bleeder release button and both presta/schraeder valve end fitting ( Reads at 0.1 PSI measurements - PSI/Bar/kPa/KG-CM2 scales). $30 . This lil' bewdy is the ducks nutts m8.

I've got the same 2hp compressor, one of the best things I bought.
If you want to run nail guns and do large amounts of spray painting you may want the 2.5 hp 40 litre one. But for home use the 2hp 24 litre is fine for me. It will run the rattle gun, just doesn't have the power to get the front sprocket off...
I use a digital tyre pressure gauge and have for a number of years. Its small accurate and not too expensive. I think there about $20 odd..

I bought the larger GMC unit (which I got thru a contact at GMC) coz I want to run a spray gun and rattle gun...
guess I am spoilt 'coz I have always had a compressor that would run some serious gear

most people just wanna plug it in..and go
without worrying whether its 1 phase 3 phase or what volts

I used to have a 8 (was it 10?) cfm PEERLESS compressor...240v
but it did need a 15 amp circuit

Most compressors seem to be rated in HP these days
and
the bigger GMC one is equal to about 7½ cfm (I think)

i have a racing tyre pressure guage that is able to be adjusted and I have the thing calibrated by an instrument company for accuracy (they have known pressure vessels and guages that are dead accurate)

actually a friend of mine runs Island performance down at Cowes on Phillip Island....he may have some good gauges, at a good price...I dunno if this sort of thing goes against KSRC policy or anything??...but may be able to get some sort of discount thing (i'm assuming this at this stage) going if both parties are interested.???


he has quite a lot of bike stuff obviously being on the island and supplies stuff to teams when they are down..... he set the business up as a motorsport supplier but he can get just about anything.

Michelin make a very good gauge can be found at most good bike shops for around the $50.00 mark. When choice magazine did a survey on gauges years ago the michelin one was head and shoulders above anything else at the time. I bought one on 1990 and its still going strong.

Regards the compressors do they need 3 phase wiring? For the dummies i.e. me I know the house is wired for 3 phase because of the airconditioner so is it a matter of just plugging in and off I go?

Sorry rooster, I was jokin' about the 3 phase machine unless you need a super huge compressor like in a factory that runs airtools all day( I say silly things sometimes).
What the others are suggesting are just fine for small amount of handyman use and use regular 10 amp~240 volt outlets, as mentioned some units require 15amp~240 outlets which normally can be reconised by one of the socket or plugs prongs (earth)being a little wider than the other two. This may create a problem for some buildings as there may not be an outlet with the correct amperage supply available. (basically the plug wont fit and if you can get it too fit it will blow fuses) But the technical details of electricity I will leave to the eggspurts.

Thanks guys for your assistance got the compressor from Supercheap for $89. Makes going for a ride confident that I have the right of amount of air in plus the other things that I can now do with a bit of compressed air.

I have spoken to Ben (a good friend of mine) who owns a spare parts/motorsport shop down at Phillip island called Island Performance. He has the michelin tyre pressure guages for sale from his store which are the same guages he sells to wsb and motogp teams when they come to the island.

He is an agent for all sorts of bike stuff (he is Gippsland Akropovic agent)and I am going down next Wednesday to get a basic product list and to workout what sort of discount he can offer for KSRC members, that is of course, if its ok with the KSRC admins to offer this.

Once I have an idea of what he has and what discount he can offer and as long as the admins ok it, I will post it up.
