Adjusting preload on a 2010 Ninja 250

Post by d00nson »

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been answered before but it didnt come up when searching "250" and "preload".
Anyone with a '08-'10 250 tried adjusting the rear preload by themselves?
It doesn't have a work stand like the ZZR/GPX so I'm a bit stumped.
Also the adjustment seems really tucked away compared to alot of bikes.
On my friend's Daytona 675 the rear damper is in plain sight and you can literally slip the adjustment spanner right in and turn it.

According to the manual it's setup for a 65kg-ish rider. However it doesn't tell me how many clicks I need for a 90kg rider.
Or is there some universal increment e.g. 1 click = +5kg or +10kg preload?

Cheers,
Alex

nope, generally you set the sag.

preload wont fix the weight it is set up for only how much pressure is on the spring while at rest.

Hi Wattie,
I might have my jargon mixed up. Is there anything I can do to the rear at this stage so that it doesnt feel so squishy?

up the preload to at least setting 4 or 5 (of 5) i weigh a smidge under you and thats what i rode on... way better than setting 2 or 3...

in terms of reaching it, from memory it was a little difficult and fiddly, but once you have the C spanner, all you'll lose is a little skin off your knuckles
