Petrol "gushing"

Post by patboy »

When I start my GPZ 900R the petrol comes gushing out of the engine directly under the front end of the seat. It only happens upon starting the engine but ALL the petrol comes out. Can anyone explain what this may be? I am thinking a leak in the fuel line or hose and not a faulty fuel tap due to the amount of petrol and speed at which it all comes out. However I am not too knowledgable in this area. I have contacted a mechanic who said he does not work on bikes of this age, so if anyone can help me as to a mechanic, preferably on the north side of Syney or Northern BEaches, I would appreciate it.
Thankyou.

Hose from the fuel pump not plugged into the carbs and just throwing fuel out?
Does the motor actually start and run?

Thanks for those replies. Yes motor does start and run until of course, when the fuel empties. I am thinking of getting a mobie bike mechanic to check it out for me. Thanks again.

no fuel pump on these models.

Sounds to me like the breather hose, which exits at the rear of the tank - has been swapped with something else. There is no real reason that fuel should be coming out under pressure at all, as these tanks only use gravity feed through the fuel tap to the carbies.....

will be interesting to see what the problem is, when it is diagnosed properly...
