From the "it seemed like a good idea at the time" file. My partner's daughter has just got her L's and loves the retro look scooters; she found the scoot of her dreams in Goolwa, SA. School holidays had just started so we thought we'd zip over to SA on the Sprint, and I'd escort my partner back as she rode the mighty 150cc Espresso scooter back. The 740k ride over was brilliant (a nice high speed run on the Friday, over the Murray on the ferry at Wellington, then a few little twisties through Strathalbyn and Langhorne Creek to Goolwa on Friday evening). The ride back was 'interesting'. Once we realised a) the scooter wouldn't comfortably push over 80kph, and b) the position could be made more comfortable by using the pillion pegs as rider footpegs

we decided to come back via the back roads via Meningie

Kingston SE

Naracoorte

and Edenhope. Not surprisingly we took two days to get back but saw stuff you wouldn't normally see at interstate speeds - tortoises crossing the road to mate, echidnas in the verges and so on. Wouldn't necessarily do it again

; blew out the cobwebs with a run over Reefton Spur down to Wilson's Prom with my partner back on her FZR250, my son on his YZF600 and his mate on his CBR250RR; surprisingly no 150cc scooters were there
