I read about this on FarceBook but didn't think much more of it. Now that I've seen it, I'm suitably impressed. Very nice!

Sure its no ZX10R, but it will be a lot of fun over summer.....big, fast and comfortable enough for me....

I got the rego papers, thanks Mick - once the last few bits come in from the wreckers, rego won't be far behind......and a ride down the Clyde beckons....

Is one of those parts a side stand, or are you going to be strapping those 2 bits of 2x4 to the passenger seat??Gosling1 wrote:I got the rego papers, thanks Mick - once the last few bits come in from the wreckers, rego won't be far behind......and a ride down the Clyde beckons....

It has a bit more lean on the sidestand than I usually liketim wrote:.......Is one of those parts a side stand, or are you going to be strapping those 2 bits of 2x4 to the passenger seat??.....
anyway, a bit more of an update today on this old girl.....
Thanks to the weather being a bit kinder than the snowstorm of yesterday
so I finished fitting up the exhaust system pilfered from the Pearl. This system has been kicking around the 4th for ages, and works pretty well.........it has looked a bit out of place on the Pearl - but not on the GPz !!
It tucks in really well, and in a stroke of luck, the mounting bracket lined up perfectly with the hole in the footpeg bracket, so that was a bonus. I gave the muffler a bit of a hit on the buffing wheel, so it looks almost like new.
The re-fitting of this exhaust system also got rid of the bad exhaust leak that the previous system had on one of the header pipes..........and when this other system was removed, it was easy to see why.......the entire header pipe just broke out of the collector box !
The note from this new system is pretty good, and a *bit* louder than when it was fitted to the Pearl....
So at this point, all I am waiting on is a headlight bucket, and sorting out why the brake light does not work from the front brakes

Re: Latest addition to the 4th......1983 ZX1100A1 (GPz1100)
Latest update on the old ZX1100.....
Got temporary rego sorted today so I could ride it to the inspection joint.......massive fail. The place I normally get inspections done, are waiting on re-certification.....so it was off to another joint..........these guys only had 1 inspection sheet left in the book
and a bike booked in for an inspection that afternoon......so they suggested another joint.
What a pack of cocksmokers this mob are - when the young dipstick who was swarming all over the bike looked at the pods on the back of the throttle butterflies and said ' you have to have an airbox for rego' - I just got on the bike and bailed. Fuckin' idiots - I generally never use these clowns, and broke my own rule going there.....
Anyway, the important things are that the bike starts well from cold, runs well through to redline.....
, handles like you would expect a 27-year old dinosaur to handle......but I have to say the anti-dive works really well, and takes a bit of getting used to as well....
For some reason not yet fully explored - the bike does not like hot-starting. The starter-motor sounds like it is really labouring, and the current draw in some of the earth leads up near the ignition coils was ......noticeable !
I think the starter-motor is shagged. The bike bump-starts immediately, which really rules out valve clearance issues......fuel pump is working OK, all the important things are good......except hot starts !
I was intending to have a decent ride this afternoon with Lurch, doing Mick C's Long Way Home ride - but after Lurch and I had wired up the relay mod. for the ignition coils, I had a total electrical shut-down just down the street as we were heading off to get juice - so I parked the cantakerous shitbox, and took the little 6fiddy instead.
Of course, after being out on a ride for a couple of hours - came home, took the tank off, checked the wiring and fuses - nothing wrong - and the bike bump-started immediately !!!
- I did a few laps around the burbs after that, and it ran really well.
So tomorrow, will try changing starter motors over from the few I have in stock, and see if I can get the old girl to start when the motor is warm......looks like full rego will have to wait another week now.....
