my point is, peak torque starts at 2000rpm on the xr6t's motor, goes against common perceptions of turbos 8)

aaaahhh......
not LARGE capacity ones...it don't
well ...not IMHO..it don't
why do guys turbo large capacity engines....???
coz you have large gobs of torque from down low (1500..1800 on..)
and LARGE gobs of horsepower and torque..once the turbo warms up...
THINK PORSCHE..... :twisted:


lol ive collected a few scalps while riding my cbr250, recently a VY SS as well as a BA XR8 :twisted
we all have....
why??? a bikes gearing is better and so is its power/weight ratio
and even a little one....
a RGV250, CBR250, ZX2r...will beat a car....

XR6t vs SS??
been done in the car mags...
STANDARD..the SS wins ...coz of the weight of the Falcon...
not much...only a cupla tenths....
mind you...
BOTH are bloody quick
for road cars (and yes i have had things like XU1's)

and I also say that...
having had a few rides in one of Pee Brocks race cars back in the 80's....
275kmh around the speed bowl at Lang Lang is not slow... :shock:

so modified.....???
not sure...but I do know..in the last month or so
at Willowbank...a modified standard capacity (AND street rego'd) SS
ran 10.3 at 119MPH (190kmh)..again quick....

sheeeeit
you want to go faster than that....???
just put a stroker kit in it....available from ya friendly speed shop
for about $6large....

think I might leave this....'mine is fasta than yours' stuff...
for the younger boys...
just remember....
there is always..someone quicker or faster than you...!

besides...
I always have the bike....around 11 seconds for the quarter
no standard XR6t or SS will beat that.....
thats why i have a bike... :twisted:

Yeah but what would a XR6 Turbo, do after you spend that same $6K...

Bang for buck you can't beat the XR6 Turbo...

Upgrade
ECU, Exhaust, Intake and cooler.....

And you've moving...

actually gen3 commonwhores are fantastic for bolt on performance, running easy mid 12's with just bolt on mods/tuning

still, that aint a 10 second pass like an unopened (and stock turbo'd!) xr6's 8)

Guys, if you hadn't noticed. The younger boys have left that to you.
Here's a couple of thought tho. The modern sports car (exclude exotics) is quite crap when it come to hp. For all the technology that is poured into the engine programs, the return is fucked! They are not as powerful as L34's, A9X's or the clevo HO's. Remember the promoted hp figures were drmatically undersated due to the 'Supercar histeria' that ultimately killed of our tuff cars.What the modern car is awsome at is it's handling and stopping power.
Remember that 300kw only equals 400hp. There are 50 different way to get a reliable 400hp out of a Cleveland, SBC, or Mopar. Our current cleveland was dynoed at 485bhp at 5700rpm. In a race, 50-80km, the tacho sits between 4800rpm and 5500rpm. This not a drag motor, it stays reved up for 20-40 mins depending on the race. We are running a 4ma crank, 4v block, open chamber 4v heads, stock rods, cast pistons, twin 450 vac secondaries on tunnel rams. It sound simple, and you can buy the bits for 8k. To do the matchporting, balancing, clearancing, shotpeaning etc.. (a lot of machining) add another 7k. Knowledge will get you much farther the dollars. Apart from the ignition and cam, this is 70's technology. So how good are todays engines? One engine sitting there owes us just on 15k.(developement aside.) Our last 'crate' long Gen III straight from the states will cost 10k+/-. Another 4grand is not even going to get you close. The new 5.4 ford, gen V (?), and new Hemi have potential, but thats all. Potential.
As for 10.3 road registered?? At only 119mph, how hard do they have to launch? If they are actualyy doing these lauches, how do they keep a windsreen in the car, and what are they doing for engine mounts?? How long will the doors fit properly for. Also, running road LEGAL Mickey T's or McCrearies hardly counts either. You won,t get a radial Tyre that will actually go around corners, to run any quicker than 11.0 on a car any heavier than 1500kg.

What bugs me about the whole steet car scene is the hand on cocks bit. It's full of tossers. That's why I ride a bike. People don't bullshit on the same, coz if you don't know how to ride, you'll never be quick, even on an RCV. :evil:

a9x's had a stock 308 IIRC didnt they? running high 15's out of the box... power figures back then were made using different standards.. did anybody notice how when holden brought out the blue 202 they quoted lower power output than some of the red 202's, yet my mates LX torry with a VC blue 202 in it was an absolute monster for what it was, no (stock) red 202 came close

dont worry i wont say another single word good word about gen3's :roll: but they are running some pretty crazy numbers with bolt ons + head work + cam

10.3@119mph is pretty rough, i think the xr6t record of 10.9@124mph is a bit more respectable

g'day all
new to the site and thought i would throw in my 2 cents worth
in the process of turboing a old 1000Rx engige
my veiw is have to inject it due to the carbs being a waste of time to get the power i'm looking for
was looking at GPz1100 injection bodies but look to be going to make the throttle bodies from scrach and having a one peice plate with the 4 bodies bored into it and mounted soild to the head
this gives me much more space and allows for the correct spacing from the head
there are a lot of ECU's out there but the ones i'm looking at are Motec and microtech as for the ease of tuning
hoping to get a varible boost control vavle to help with the high boost i'm looking for (so it doesnt ripe my arms off or just start wheel spinning at speed ) been looking at another site 750turbo.com which has a lot of info and great ideas on the 750cc GPz

pistons will be forged wisco or JP
rods are the next worry so looking at Carrillo rods
copper head gasket
gearbox and clutch will have to be upgraded or strenthened
custom made header mount as close as possible to the exhaust ports
hope to intercool it (depends on space )
just a few things off the top of my head
getting it on paper now then start with the real build
hoping to street reg it but will be used mainly for dry lake racing in SA

dont drop your C/R down too much if your gonna use a good ECU, cause a good tuner can tune out most pinging

theres always room for an intercooler :wink: if not, how about methanol injection? :twisted:


as for boost control, it dosnt usually come cheap ... tho some ECU's have it as an optional extra ... turbosmarts e-boost is pretty good, but i see jaycar do one too!

you need this and this for it. pretty damn cheap too, not sure how well it works tho ...

sorry..but that was the story 15 years ago....
when we had petrol with a decent octane rating
and if you couldn't find it...you went to the airport...
oh...for avgas.. :P

these days.....
even the Optimaxes and Synergy fuels
can't handle too much in the way of a DECENT compression ratio
even V8 supercar engines have this problem too...

I have tried...and I have tried and tried... :evil:
to get modern engines (with ECUs Motecs etc etc) to run
WITHOUT holing pistons or pinging or detonation
on anything more than a max of about 10.5:1

some turbo engines... i couldn't get to run
on more than about 8psi..without the 'rattles'....
not very conducive to making hp!

It seems modern 'alloy' engines are more affected by poor octane ratings of our fuels....
the older cast iron engines (think Falcon and Holden 6) will take more ignition advance and more compression
than anything with alloy in it....(which is most modern engines)

and don't even think about the 'cheap' fuels from Singapore
a standard BA falcon or Vy Holden 6 will sometimes rattle
and our petrol companies and regulators (that is, the government)
couldn't give a shit...

and I know..i have tried and given up...
