Looking forward to taking one of these for a test-fang at the end of January !!!

I bet on this bike I could do 1'35"s around the Creek with my head up my arse while farting the Marsellailles in G Minor !! and On Cold Tyres as well !! with only 28 psi ( I heard from a real fast bloke that 28psi is the *magic* number).

You gotta stop talking about stace, gos. When he refers to 28 psi being the magic number and being real fast, he's not talking about on the track.....

Some early poor dyno performances have now been tracked down to the traction control. Seems when the front wheel's not turning at all - like on the dyno ... Now the power / TC setting on the dyno would be (you'd think) "OFF" but it seems now like "OFF" doesn't mean exactly the same thing to kawasaki that it does to ... bmw, let's say. Now the people who are bringing this up are quick to point out that it's not the whole story, not the full and complete explanation, but it is one factor. It also seems Kaw has struggled a bit to get through the Cal EPA tests, and that's nobbled them a bit. The bmw - allegedly - does NOT comply with the Cal EPA. How they got it (officially) passed, is anybody's guess, but in private testing, it's clearly not passing the emissions by some smallish margin and not passing the noise by quite a significant margin. The kawa does pass both. Another factor, is that the few back to back runs which have been done, have been done in 3rd gear. Seems OEM 3rd gear on the Kwak is at least 10% taller than the boomer. They haven't been lining the charts up at the same rpm, (despite what this vid appears to show) they've been lining them up at the same road speed. In theory, that doesn't effect the peak horsepower figure, but when you compare torque curves, you get a false impression that the kwak is a slug. The graphs are not wrong, but they are very misleading. This may go some way to explain why Kawasaki has been running around like a blue arsed fly trying to shut people up, at least until they sort all this out. One imagines they'd rather sort all these details out and then release the information in a tidy package, rather than get into long-winded geeky explanations.

This is apparently the vid kawasaki has been trying to stop. Without the explanations, it doesn't look good at all. If you understand the kawa is geared higher in 3rd, that this vid doesn't explain or allow for that, that it's mapped to pass the EPA, that its traction control may be interfering in the runs, and that it may be experiencing valve float / bounce on the inlet side, which (later) customer bikes will not...

so to clarify, there's no Calif specific model like it was way back when?

if the Beemer really doesn't comply, surely anyone could dob them in to the feds? Does seem a bit iffy for a company like BMW to do that.. Do they do surprise noise/pollution tests over there?

Just read this on motoonline.com.au

Kawasaki Motors Corporation USA today announced that the recent sales hold placed on the 2011 Ninja ZX-10R sportsbike is expected to be lifted in late January and that sales of the highly-anticipated unit will resume as normal.

According to Kawasaki engineers, the proactive sales hold resulted from a finding that indicated possible surging of the intake valve spring when the unit is operated under unique riding conditions, such as on a racetrack.

The surge could cause the intake valve to seat improperly, resulting in poor engine performance, according to Kawasaki in the U.S.

The camshaft, valve springs, and spring retainers are being replaced to prevent the valves from surging, without affecting engine performance.

No official update has been released by Kawasaki Australia at this point.

Oh my, has anyone baked the humble pie - I do beleive its ready to be consumed

NO bike/car or ANY engine is garenteed to be reliable out on a race track ALL manufactures will void warranty FULL STOP!!! Bmw and aprilia engines exploded from road use, no recal! ducati is being sued in the states cause of melting fuel tanks and they r only replacing them with the same material. Iv been told that the frames are contaminated and faulty, piston rings frying, no oil pressure blah blah fucking blah!! What the problem is I dont know but its not uncommon for a hold or a recall on vehchiles but NEVER in history has ANY manufacturar offered money back on safety or reliabilty issues. Fuck even rolls royce produce faulty air craft engines and fit them to planes 100's of ppl die and still no $$$ back. My best bet is that its an emissions problem or something along those lines where the manufacturar can get sued for millions for EVERY model sold. Dont care no more I bought a Yamaha.
This is the post that put it on the menu

Iam that worried that I had to buy one to test properly before you guys commit to getting one, see what I do for you guys.
;)

Oh, so far I have heard the recall was for: zorst butterfly, front rim, not a honda, not an R1 or S1000R, weak valve spring, low oil pressure top end on full tilt, ecu error, ABS and traction control conflict and flux capacitor exploding which would be my educated guess ;)
