Changing Sprocket Gearing

I'm looking at going to a 15/45 (-1/+2) setup on my 6R, but I'd like to get some opinions on a couple of things first.

Steel or Hard Anodised Aluminium rear sprocket? As with tyres, I don't mind sacrificing a bit of longevity to get a bit more out of it (From a performance perspective) but I don't want to be replacing them every 1000kms.

Any brands that should be avoided, or are they all pretty much on par with each other?

In regards to speedo calibrators, is it worth getting something flashy like HealTech's SpeedoHealer? Or is something simple like the SpeedoDRD just as good?

And lastly, is factory speedo error fairly uniform across bikes of the same model? (I.e '08 ZX6R #1, '08 ZX6R #2 etc).

It's all a little new to me as I never fiddled with sprocket gearing (Or much else aside from basic maintenance) on my 250's.

for the road, i'd just to with steel rear. but alloy ones do look cool

you will need to get a new chain also, you will struggle to get the stock length chain over a plus 2 rear even with a minus 1 front.

personally, i'd keep it simple and just go -1 on the front to start off with. then when its time for a new chain, then make the change.

cant help with speedo healer. havent used them.

Oops, forgot to mention the chain will be getting replaced as well, not just a sprocket swap.

make sure its a 520 chain. i think the 600's may already have a 520 but.

I did -1 front and it's changed the bike completely, +2 on the back as well is gonna be pretty short gearing I'd imagine..... You can forget going to eastern creek with anymore than -1 on the front.

From what I've seen 15/45 is the combination that pops up the most on the 07-08's... However, having a poke around on Gearing Commander, the numbers are different from what I remember the last time I was playing around with it.

The comment about EC is a little off-putting as well... Granted I haven't actually been, but a track day is something I'd like to do in the not too distant future when I stop myself from being so paranoid about binning it (I know, I'm a wuss, shut up!).

Maybe I should just go -1 to start with as Wattie suggested...

Speedo healer is recommended in my books. Not for the fact of speedo accuracy but to reduce the amount of KMS on your odometer. If it is 10-15 % out then your putting 10-15% extra kms on you bike.

Yep 15 43 for Ec so I found out today. 15 45 gets you weird gear change point such as 2 gears over the bridge at 3 the. Back down one for 4.

I actually went out today and and worked out my base speedo error - 7.6%. A -1 front front adds an extra 6.2% on top of that for a grand total of 13.8%; So your example was pretty much dead on Blurr.

So it looks like I'll be going with the -1 after all, and the speedohealer.

got a rattlegun? good sockets (single hex is best)? dont even bother trying to remove the front sprocket without a rattlegun, chances are you'll just round of the nut.

Aye, I'm a mechanic by day (Well, apprentice, but only a year to go. Not with bikes though, much to my disappointment ). But there's plenty of tools laying around.

Yep, from my calcs my ZRX has about 3500 virtual kilometres. Conclusion comes from checking the old tech spinning gears and cables speedo with a GPS. And WTF is right about countershaft speedo pickup??? (mates Z750)
Would be better friction/drag, gearing change and accuracy if manufactureres (cars/bikes/whatever else) got with the times and just did GPS speedos.
