Esie, I have the same thing, its the Tank depressurising. Put your ear near the fuel cap.

I just open the fuel tank and close it again when it annoys me.

As i said, if it stops after you open the tank, then its the vent tube is blocked somehow. If it keeps going then not tank pressure related.

My Z750 does the same thing. I heard it was normal too. It doesn't bother me at all. Mine only ever does it when I turn her off. Or maybe the Micron exhaust is masking it while she's running.

I recently bought a ninja 250 and the fuel tank squeals like a bitch every now and then when riding, its really annoying. I had a look around and it seeems you can buy a SSR Race Gas cap which will fit and supposedly fixes the problem. Or you can drill the breather in the fuel cap.

I can see how this is going to get really annoying so im going to be drilling it soon or buying another cap. I like drilling.

I think kawa will give you one replacement fuel cap if you bike is still under warranty, so you could drill the existing whinga and have a backup just in case you drill more sideways than normal people. Only bad thing about the race cap is it doesn't have a key lock..certain people will inhale your petrol.

Hehe, so is it actually a 'problem' or is it normal? If it's a problem of some sort, is it worth fixing or nothing to really worry about as it doesn't damage the bike or anything.

Well i have tried a few different female models and at some point they all do it. I will keep testing though and let you know the out come

Well my mate just got a brand spanking new 250R and his does it too. So I guess it's pretty normal.

During the week I rode my '09 Z1000 to a friend's house. The journey is 9 kms, but about 20 mins, owing to about 20 sets of lights that are timed to get just about every single one red! Anyway, once I arrived, I turned the bike off and took the key out of the ignition. For about the next 20 mins, the fuel pump kept priming over and over again, and then for the next 10 mins or so, there was a continuous high pitched whine. The bike has done 1000 kms (not exactly being ridden hard, I know! Today I turned it on and let it run for a bit in the garage, and it didn't do it after turning it off then. I have noticed it one other time, but generally I don't hang around the bike after turning it off, so I haven't really noticed it any other times. Any ideas about this,why it may be doing it, should it be a warranty issue?

Hi Anne sounds like a fuel injection pressure issue possibly software related?? may be hardware
The humidity that we are experiencing is out of the normal range keep an eye on it as i suspect if the ignition is turned off this should not happen.
The pump should only pressurize on start up and then be able to supply fuel without over working during riding HTH
