ZRX Rear Suspension

Post by Errol »

Well, after a hell of a lot of searching, & @ the risk of being an outcast from the Ohlins/ZRX horde that is building.............

How nice are these

Twin-shock with piggyback reservoir

If you are interested in the advantages of separate high- and low-speed compression settings for your twin-shock equipped motorcycle, you should consider the 632 TS Competition. The milled top of this shock contains divided compression adjustments for 22 variations in high-speed and low-speed. It also serves as a connection to the piggyback reservoir. Even the rebound damping is generously wide, consisting of 22 clicks for optimal fine-tuning. In addition, our wet run and radial piston technology guarantees sensitive reaction characteristics and maximum functionality and durability.

Raising ride height, and Hydraulic Preload Adjustment available for most models

Nice choice mate.

When I spent a gazillion on suspension for the tracky, my suspension guy gave me the option of Ohlins or Wilbers for pretty much the same price but his preference was for the Wilbers, not for any other reason than he believes he gets better results when revalving and setting them up for people. He did say though that they were both the top of the tree for off the shelf suspension components.

Last time someone priced the Wilbers there was a - quite hefty - premium over the "known quantity" Ohlins. Still the case or more even these days?

They doo look pretty trick though.

And as Eric has already mentioned - no outcasts amoung us Errol ;) Best blank canvas to build your own ride. The way I see it, thats exactly what your doing. ;)

Has anyone tried that Gazi stuff yet?? I sent them an email and they are bloody cheap. I just wonder if the internals are any good. I am not chasing lap records with the Rex, so am not concerned about having the best available, just having something of quality with some decent adjustability for when the Rex is packed to the gunnals!

Thanks fellow Kwakarite's,

Price wise, Greg @ ASR in Adelaide has had a price reduction across the board & these units are now $1850inc a set compared to $1995 for the Ohlins in Oz.

Considering these also have High & Low speed compression dampening adjustment that reads pretty good.

On top of that they are hand built & shims, needles, oil viscosity & spring weights are tailored to the customers requirements @ the build point in Germany.

So not exactly off the shelf items per say.

Not to mention a 5 year warranty & I think they are well & truly competitive.

They also come in 2 x color options, traditional Black & Aluminium finish or Sport which are the ones in the photo, same price.

Strika, as far as the Gazi's go, I have had some back & forth e-mails with them, & was pretty tempted from a save some dollars point of view.

Paul @ Gazi has actually offered me 14 days money back trial of his top off the range Hyper750 units.

If I had to save the money as opposed to blowing my tax cheque I probably would go with the Gazi's.

My main concern was for 2/3 the price of bringing Ohlins in from the USA, was I getting less than 2/3 of the suspension.

I didn't want to blow $780 & find they were no better than the std KYB already fitted, to which he offered me the 14 day trial, can't ask for more than that, & of course T-Rex use them.

There is also an option thru YSS also in Adelaide.......

I have looked @ that many options & done so many sums my bloody head hurts, better have a beer & make a decision.

Thanks for reminding me Phil...even though i am enjoying the 2010 Z1000, i still miss the ZRX.

The Gazi's made a real difference from the moment I fitted them and i was just just tuning them in when I through it all away  :(

I had no issues with the quality or look of them and at the sub-$1000 price tag you can achieve a lot without having to cancel Christmas.

So, it begs the question, where are the Gazi's from your bike?? Don't tell me you let the Insurance Company have them?????

The right side was a casualty of the accident... It had the Muzzy wrapped around it with some force so they were f******

Strika, I know Paul well and I know that they have done their homework in developing the range. I fitted them for the same reason as you... I wasnt chasing land speed records but I wanted to improve handling with far better adjustment/performance than the KYB's were ever going to offer. I certainly got that.

Errol,
I know you said you wanted something other than Ohlins, but you can get them much cheaper than the $1900 odd you've been quoted..

Can get them direct from the U.S, Dan Kyle is pretty good with prices and a major Ohlins dealer in the states.....Probably about $1100 or so plus $100 shipping to Aus......with the AU $ at the moment, you'll save a bundle....
Worth some thought ;)

Hey J-rex,

It's not that I wanted something other than Ohlins, I just happened to come across these while searching all my options :D .

I was about 2 hrs off pushing the paypal button on a set of Ohlins from indysuperbikes, they were over $100 cheaper than DanKyle landed here.

But was having trouble getting hold of manual adjusted preload type from over there, Dankyle was prepared to order them in for me.

As far as the Aussie options go,

Greg @ ASR was very enthusiastic & helpful on the phone, he has had a price reduction which now makes these a cheaper option than Ohlins, so I wanted to let others in on the options.

Paul @ Gazi & Marty @ YSS were likewise helpful & informative, wish I could afford to buy a set of each  .

Yes our South Sea Peso is performing well against the US @ present 8) ...............

Well, we will see in a few days how good this Gazi stuff really is, as I took the plunge yesterday and ordered a set. I will post up some findings once I have had a chance to fit and fiddle!!!! 8)
