Re: ZRX fork mods-What done, how much, did it work?
I took some pain killers, waited until they had kicked in and went out and played with the Rex. I just love looking at that bike. While my 2005 636 had to rate as the best looking motorcycle I have ever owned, the ZRX for some reason pushes my buttons even more.
After fitting the new Gazi shocks to the rear and the first ride making the lack of front end control very obvious, I thought I might make a few adjustments to the front. So I upped the preload to three rings showing and went one off max rebound and two off max compression. The adjusters in this model have a very limited range and to be honest you could crank it to full eveything and it would still ride fine.
I am hoping to do a small 150k return loop tomorrow if my back will handle it. I am actaully OK sitting on the bike and find it much easier to get on than into car. Also, once on it, I get less muscle spasms than in the car. Pushing the clutch in on the car brings tears to the eyes.

After much debate..i ended up getting Traxxion Dynamics AK-20 cartridges w springs. These are pretty much a complete drop in kit with rebound/comp valves.
Not too difficult to install either..
I really like them, you can now feel the difference when making adjustments and the front end just feels heaps better.
Cost was not that cheap but with my 06 model, the carts are sealed on the bottom end, making it hard to work on yourself..thats the main reason i went with these.
$999 direct from Traxxion, plus about 80-90 for delivery. They come with springs for your weight/riding style and maxima racing fork fluid.
Very nicely made and another bonus is you can refit them to another model with little modification.....not that you'd want to ever get rid of the ZRX!..

Strika: My front end was like that. The clickers did SFA, but I got the Promecha mod done & now one click in any direction you really feel. In fact they are a little touchy. You really have to make very small adjustments! They really do make that much difference now. Mine is an 05 so I could only do so much, but it has sorted the sud standard front end out. The rear is limited. I think I will end up going with the Gasi shocks. While the revalve Peter did worked wonders compaired to standard. They are still at their limit IMO. It just might be me expecting to much. I dont know.Strika wrote:The adjusters in this model have a very limited range and to be honest you could crank it to full eveything and it would still ride fine..

Sman, from my brief run on the Gazi's, i am confident they are a good fit for the Rex. More than the sum of their parts.

Great to know. My Rex is like a hinge. You just cant push on to much. I had a run with a guy I race with, he has a ZX12R roady & is a pretty good punter on the track, I struggle to stay with him. We had a debreif & he said I had a lot faster entry speed but was loosing mid corner, then wolloing out . That tells me the front is ok but the rear is failing . Like I said I might be expecting a little to much. Im sure I could get around the creek in around 1.49s 1.50s as it is. But it would be ugly..Strika wrote:Sman, from my brief run on the Gazi's, i am confident they are a good fit for the Rex. More than the sum of their parts.
So as soon as the race season is over, Gasi's will be getting bolted onto the big girl..
