Hey. Newbie with suspension probs.

Post by Roly_ZX9eer »

HI Roly's me name, just registered.

I ride a 2000 model zx9r which is just in for its 30k service.

Problem is when adjusting the rebound I used too big a screw driver and managed to strip the thread  . The shock is now permently adjusted to its hardest setting unless I replace the shock. A brand newie will cost about $1500, not an option. The bloke's gonna try and replace it with a second hand one from a wreckers. The thing is its prob only a adjusting rod in the shock that needs to be replaced but they don't make that part individually so I gotta buy the whole shock  . Any ideas or anyone with a crashed 9 prepared to sell me a part?

Oh yeah, I live in Sydney and am looking to do a track day soon, any going?

Hey Roly, welcome.
I think you'll have to do a ring-around at wreckers to see if you can find anything. Aardvark (Jason) had a similar sort of problem a while ago where the screw was wound out past where it should've been. I think he had to replace it too (Jase?)
As for track days we don't get out there all that much anymore, nor as much as we'd like.
I'm trying to get a group together for a Level 1 ASBS course (see Ride Days forum), but that's about it.
When you get the bike fixed join us up the OPH at Pie in the Sky any Sunday morning at 9 for breakfast, or Phil rides the Nasho every Sunday from 8:30am too.
Join in and have fun.

I've got a bog standard shock from a '98 C1 model sitting in my garage. Don't know if it will fit in a 2000 model though 'cause I think they made a few changes.
