If you have confirmed that you have:
1) Fuel (fuel in the float bowl is a good indication)
2) Spark (as mentioned earlier) &
3) Air (this is easy, just check you dont have a seriously fouled air filter)
If all of these look good and the starter is turning the motor over quickly ie: not labouring... it should start. UNLESS, you have no compression. A motor with a blow head gasket will turn over all day, but never start. Check your coolant for signs of contamination.
PS.
I am not a mechanic nor do I claim to know anything about mechanics...

Used to have a ZXR750 J1 (1991) and there was a safety cut out on the clutch lever (a little contact switch) when the lever was worn it used to lose contact and stop the bike turning over (just a thought)
The pic below should show ya why there are holes in the tank.
Oh BTW, welcome aboard, the ZXR,s are awsome bikes.

CHEERS everyone for the help and welcome
nice friendly bunch you lot are
James, your a gun, love those lights and they're gunna look tops on the front of the ZXR
any idea what the next money pit is gunna be or not quite at that stage yet?
well, i played with it a bit more tonight, looks like i found the issue. all those that were betting on the plugs, go collect your money
while i had spark with the OLD plugs that came in my box of goodies, the plugs in the bike were stuffed completely, not a sceric of sparkage to be found. i've stuck the old ones in now and it runs, but only one had a GOOD spark so its running pretty ruff.
i'll grab some new plugs on friday and i'll also give the carbs a run with some carbie cleaner spray and clean the air filter and box. might aswell change the oil and filter at the same time i spose and make it a full service.
overall, pretty happy with the bike. runs a bit ruff at the moment but the motor feels nice and solid. and even tho its a good 10kg or more heavier than my thundercat, its feels HEAPS more nimble so i'm rapt with that. heh, not regretting this purchase as much as i was last night now
again, thanks y'all. be good to get to know a few of you

thats my bike
12 bar is gone, stunt sprockets and chain are going back to stock (got the stock setup with the bike aswell), gunna paint all the plastics nice gloss black, have an awesome light and screen setup thanks to james there.....
overall, this thing should rock once i'm done. not gunna be a huge amount of money in it, just a bit of time. results should be worth it tho, i love streetfighters

That's good. Rough running is no problem, just need fine tunings. I reckon you need to do carb balancing as well while you're there. When cleaning the carbs don't try to save. Spray HEAPS of them. I did mine with half a can99coconuts wrote: i'll grab some new plugs on friday and i'll also give the carbs a run with some carbie cleaner spray and clean the air filter and box. might aswell change the oil and filter at the same time i spose and make it a full service.
