ZX7R SPEEDO PROBLEM

Post by kippaxaus »

Hi,

Can anybody help with an issue I have with my speedo cable, On the way to work the other day, had just opened it up briefly, speedo working fine. then next time I look down, no speedo reading or trip meter. I checked the cable wasn't loose at either end, I then removed the inner cable it looks ok, and if insert it into the gauge end and twist it quickly the speedo registers. Could it be the speedo drive next to the fork and if so what do I need to look for. Are they easy enough to get hold of and fit.
Cheers Dave

I would say its the hub drive gears stripped being plastic, also check your cable is spinning freely in the casing as well and give it some light lube such as graphite-molybdenum disulfide compound and do not use oil.

It is easy as in removing front wheel to fit.

Try bike wreckers locally and interstate, from memory those speedo drives fit all 7's, 9's, ZRX/ZZR1100's and 1200' sportsbikes of that era.

Last time I checked was about 2 months ago for this item and most wreckers have them, around $40 I was quoted.
