Snakes are out and about.

Post by Strika »

I have come across a couple of little snakes recently, but today, I had a close encounter with a larger 4 foot Tiger who wanted the same piece of track as me and the two dogs. Both dogs recalled when they heard NO. But were very intrigued by the snake and it's odd way of moving. Glad it wan't aggressive! It slithered off eventually and the leads went on the dogs straight away.

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

When I lived in the High Country I used to take a snakebite kit with me for my dogs .. fortunately never had to use it.
Might be handy since they're pups. Your local Vet can supply 8)

We apparently came across one while riding@Gingers... but I must have had my boys glasses on

It's not politically correct to kill snakes. Living on the edge of a small village I see quite a few and my solution is to 'relocate' them to hell

uhhh, its illegal to kill protected wildlife. :-|

and i would rather have redbellies about than browns. They eat the brown snakes.

Not the actual snakes, the Blacks eat the Browns eggs........
but i'm with you, we have heaps of snakes around here, including a resident in the back of my beer fridge in the garage.
we have an agreement, if they leave me alone, then i'll leave them alone.

they actually eat the snakes - black snakes eat other snakes. Trust me on this one ;)
At least you shouldn't get any rodents in your garage. Farmers are still known to "relocate" wild carpet snakes to the inside of hay sheds etc for that reason.

Yep your right...... just googled and found this on National Parks site.....
Red Bellied Black Snakes will actively chase and kill Eastern Brown snakes from their preferred locations. (Brown Snakes are responsible for around 65% of the deaths by snake bite in Australia) This makes Red Bellies good to have around!

Looks like I need to hang out a sign..

Wanted - 1 black snake, must 'like' brown snakes and mice.

There are lots of browns around here. A couple of years ago I was clearing out a large cactus and found a nest of half a dozen small browns about 4 inches long. Even this sized ones scared the crap outa me.
