Purchasing vehicle's???....

Post by Disco »

How hard is it to buy a vehicle in sydney????...Almost impossible if you ask me  ...In the last couple of year's I have bought 2 brand new bike's and both time's I felt like I was begging the place to sell me one and other's wouldn't even return phone call's or follow up enquiries....I'm still waiting on a price for a 2010 Z1000 from a sponsor on here :? ....

ATM I am looking for a work vehicle and my latest experience has left a nasty taste in my mouth...Me and the misses went to a curtain nissan dealership in the sutherland shire (late september) to look at some navara's after walking around the lot for 45min's while the 4-5 sales staff inside talked amongst themselves the misses said let's just go to liverpool I said no we are here now so went inside and asked for help to which they apologised and got somebody to come and help us.After a brief discussion about what we were after it was brought to our attention that they didn't have the model we were after but had one already sold in a holding yard around the corner. The proceeded to drive us around to have a look at the model we were after which we were greatfull for and then we went back to discuss pricing etc at this point we are happy and they want a deposit WTF we have not test driven the vehicle and are not prepared to just buy it on look's at this point the sale's guy agree's to call us soon after the 12th when the next shipment is due at the dealership for a test drive....Well it's now the 26th and do you think we have got a phone call???....When we do get our vehicle first drive I take will be too this dealership to show them and thank them for their customer service....[/rant]

Mate I found it best to say that you are willing to sign a deal if the price is right and the test drive is good. This used to get their attention but maybe if they don't have what you want they think that you will probably go somewhere else and buy.

Maybe ring around the dealers to find out who has what you want in stock.

FFS sales can't be that good that they would let you walk out without buying... :?

Had a similar problem with the missus brand new SUV, we walked into a Honda dealership & got no response from any of the sales staff.... being a Saturday they had a small coffee cart inside.....great Idea I thought at the time but that was before it got all the attention by the sales staff for over 1/2 an hour...... no it wasn't break time ...... it was 9.30 am FFS! so after 1/2 an hour on our way out the door the missus shouts at the top of her voice just how good their lack of service was   ...... this was Auto alley Parramatta, we had the worst day that day & we were so despondent by 3.00PM after visiting a dozen dealerships, you would think someone that needs commission to boost their pay would be bending over backwards to be helpful & turn on the good customer service..... seems not ...... we were totally disappointed with the day & something as exciting as getting a new car quickly turned into an unpleasant experience.
Car sales people are in my opinion at the bottom of the food chain as far as service goes, & from the experiences I have had I now treat them all with contempt.
I am the customer & If I make demands they will be met or I will kick up a stink! fug em!

Yep it's pretty average. I was once told by a sales idiot that I couldn't take a car for a test drive unless I paid the deposit and signed up first.

I'm still waiting to get a call from a bike dealer who I approached in December last year to buy a brand new bike, after I told him I was ready to go. He did me a favour though because I then found the ZRX

YES :D

Must be a Sydney thing for cars , generally anytime I have wandered into a car dealership , had some salestaff greeting me within a few minutes . Test drives no problem , just gave me the keys to new VWs after taking my details and signing the "you bend you mend" doc .
Bike shops are a mixed bag with some really good and others just sheit .
Bendigo Yamaha have been really great on a number of levels of service . Outstanding in fact . Even passed on my number to someone looking for a 2nd hand bike re my 9 .
Local Kaw dealer is OK . Just been sold so could improve I hope .
Ummmm let me see

Could be. I have learnt to ring around first and get an idea of what you are prepared to spend then head in and ask for a salesman or the sales manager and tell him exactly what you want. If they don't respond the way you want or try to sell you on something else, turn around and walk out. The thing I hate the most is the salesmanship some of the sleazy ones try out. I used to live with a used car salesman and can't stand the bullshit they carry on with to convince people to buy off them.

I had quite a poor experience with a Suttons Holden in Arncliffe about six years ago. I called the dealership and had a price confirmed over the phone to beat a quote I had from a local dealer, but when I went up to do the deal the salesman I had spoken to pulled the old "I just have to check with my manager if we can do it for that price" despite me specifically asking during our phone conversation that he had the approval to do it at that price. Apparently it wasn't the best thing for business when I slightly raised my voice just load enough for other potential customers to hear how he had wasted my time by lying to me over the phone and deceiving me into making the trip up etc. They then went into panic mode asking what they “needed to do to get the deal”, but still couldn't honour the price he said he could do over the phone. I called the other dealership in front of the salesman and his manager (as well as half a dozen other customers) to tell him that we would be there in an hour to pay the deposit for the car and to have the paperwork ready. As I was leaving I calmly mentioned to the manager that thanks to his deceitful salesman I would not consider buying from their dealership again and would be encouraging others to avoid them as well.

The local dealership I did buy the car from was Dwyer’s Holden and they were so good to deal with I went back there again last year and Leanne and I purchased our Commodore from them (now Gateway Holden). Once again they looked after us really well and gave us a good deal so I would have no hesitation referring people to see the guys we dealt with. Compared that to the fat fuck at Wilson’s Holden who sat behind his desk, wrote a few details in his diary telling me he would call me with a quote and never following through and fuckwits like the young tool at Suttons, they are so much easier to deal with and they gave us a price straight up that no other dealer would match.

There are dickhead bus drivers, dickhead cops, dickhead teachers and for sure dickhead sales people. Nelso, the question I have to ask, is if you always get great service from Dwyers, why not go there? If they don't have the brand you want, ask one of the sales people to go buy one for you! When I managed a dealership, it occured a lot more than you would think, where the customer loved us, but we didn't sell brand X that they wanted, so I would just ring a mate who I knew in another camp and buy one at dealer cost and sell it to them. Or, at worse, send them to someone who I knew and trusted would do the right thing by them.

It's about building a relationship with them and they with you. No, you shouldn't have to call back, or not be followed up, but a lot of carsales people don't folllow up because their calls get ignored when they do and they know when you leave if they have hit the mark enough fro you to buy off them and obviously they didn't!!
