hey mate, its not franks thread its mine. the point of this post is more about the fact that a lot of the mechanics i've spoken to seem reluctant to even want to take on the job, i understand what your saying about more info. but i've explained all of points that you've covered to them and they still don't want to know about. thanks for your thoughts though.BlackRabbit wrote:Hey Frank....you have any more ifo....after it cuts out, does it fire straight back up again. Is the bike fully up to temp. Is it a hot or cold day??? The more info you can give the guy who is diagnosing the best....it really does make it heaps easier, and far less stabbing in the dark

Re: PICKY MECHANICS
Way to ressurect an old thread but I gotta vent.ducati_paul wrote:I use Motorcycle Weaponry in Mona Vale and they are very good!
Took my bike there for new exhaust and dyno...
This is the result.
1) They wedged the oil cooler hose between radiator and headers, which proceeded to melt through, putting the bike out of action - note the water flow was actually blocked or severely impeded even before it melted through. Replacement part was on back order! (Never mind what having a non-functional oil cooler does to your engine!)
2) Broke my choke cable. They routed it wrong, which caused it to snap
3) Cracked a ram air cover mounting point almost clean off. This is due to trying to remove the cowling without first undoing the rivet screw holding it to the ram air cover (wtf)
4) Charged me to block the Kleen, but didn't touch it. I'm actually glad they didn't touch it because god knows what else they would've f'd up.
If I can say anything positive it's that the suspension seems miles better...
This is on my "mint" ZX12, only 6000km on the clock... Obviously they got the 12 year old apprentice to do the work or something and also obviously they had no clue what they were doing. I was going to do it myself or get Glenn to do it, but I went with them due to dyno, and positive reviews such as the one in this thread.
Going to give em a call tomorrow find out wtf they are going to do about it. Obviously taking the bike back to them is off the cards.
Not happy.

Re: PICKY MECHANICS
Man that is BAD news. Hope you get it fixed ASAP. This is why I don't use mechanics. I can stuff it up for FREE. I usually don't though coz I take the appropriate time and care.

Re: PICKY MECHANICS
Yeah missus finally agrees with me that I should do most work myself. Sometimes I lose a screw or something, no big deal and easy replaced.
I did make lemonade from lemons though. Used it as an opp to get the samco hoses I've been wanting for ages, and carbon ram air covers. Hoses were easy to fit, including actually putting them IN the mounting bracket, as opposed to against the steaming hot headers... I dunno just seemed like a better idea for some reason.

see how you go with them, but you may need to ring up the consumer affairs and discuss your situation.
its free, but if they are in the wrong, CA will stand behind you.

Re: PICKY MECHANICS
Just disappointing because I'd heard good things about these guys. If they at least refund me dosh for the dodgy work I'll call it even, otherwise I'll enjoy bagging em out to anyone that will listen. No big deal
I'd literally just done an oil change btw and it's black as after this. It definitely got cooked. Annoying. Last batch was 2500-3000 km old and was a nice dark amber.

Nothing yet. Watch this space.
Bike is back in full working order although the carbon place stuffed my ram air covers and had to remake them, consequently I'm still waiting after more than 2 weeks. Superglue and duct-tape til then.

PICKY MECHANICS
I had issues with a shop when I sent my GSXR in for timing chain replacement, meant to be a two-three day stint, waiting on parts and all that. But it ended up being a month til they were able to get the bike running properly due to some blunder when putting it all back together in the first place. But in the end they came clean and said "sorry, our stuff up" and didn't charge me any extra for the countless hours they'd spent trying to find the problem.
Stuffing up is one thing but it's another to say sorry, our mistake.
I wasn't pleased but at least they were honest about it and I've been back since.

Re: PICKY MECHANICS
Good outcome, pain in the arse waiting so long tho.
But at least they fessed up, which is good.
A lot of them wont take responsibillty when they stuff up. we all make mistakes, so just admit it, thats all we want i suppose.

Re: PICKY MECHANICS
And that is what keeps people coming through the doors.
I use Lismore City Bikeworx for last 6yrs cause they are honest with me and give me very good discounts, and "look after me" extremely well.
I know we're in rural area withonly a few shops ,but IMO they are one of the best bunch of has-beens I've dealt with in 35yrs.Too easy!!
